Rob knows what he likes and he likes what he knows.  Approve

(I'm a sucker for jazz organ, and the bass work on that album is just righteous).

Rob, Dave is spot on, your review was great for that Vangelis album too! Now it double makes me wish I'd snapped up that LP of it on Sunday!

I'm suprised that no one has responded to my 5 star review of Russian Roulette by Triumvirat. In any case I think that album pretty much destroyed their career.

I will write another classic prog review tonight after CBC Newsnet.

yeah, i think so :/
but this album is much more triumvirat than any previous one (elp-wannabe). Spartacus is a masterpiece, but I will never rate 5/5 an album ripping off trilogy, that's shameless Pinch

Man where do you guys keep finding these obscure albums and bands ?  Anyway another killer review from the Danish master.  Frankie Dymon Jr is a band I don't ever remember hearing of, but have put on my list. Thanks David !

Aye, looking for praise in this thread was a tad optimistic.
What?

I think many of the reviews here are entertaining but I often still have no clear sense of what the music is really like until I listen to a clip somewhere.
It often seems like the reviews are more about 'writing' than informing.

Should a review really rob you of the thrill of discovering the album all for yourself?  I hope not, personally.  And even if it doesn't tell you what the album sounds like for you (because you are simply a different person from the reviewer), it might set your expectations in a certain direction and their not being met could disappoint you.

Which kind of supports my point that if I really want to know what a band sounds like I listen to a clip because many of the reviews simply don't give me a solid idea about the music itself. But I find many of them fun to read.

Yeah..well, that's arguably not the point of a music review.  It is supposed to critique the approach of the artist and not necessarily describe it in a lot of detail.  I like musical analysis in a review to better elaborate the opinions but, especially comparisons by way of "sounds exactly like this or that band" can either give away too much or set false expectations for the listener.

I really try to describe the music, but you know describing music with words doesn't really cut it.

I can't take reviews on this site seriously any more because I don't take the site seiously.  That's why I don't go out of my way. But I make exceptions for young bands and bands who are worthy. I'm in the middle of a busy schedule but I took the time out to write a review for the band Perhaps' latest offering Volume Two. Hope you hate me even more.

Dude's becoming a troll now. There are TONS of people that take this site seriously.  If you mention the site, people know it and respect it.  At the very least, can you show some respect for us, your fellow human beings?

Yes...which is why reviews often don't give you a good sense of what the music actually sounds like.
