Yes everything!! Again, unless you didn't understand it the few times that V spelled it out for you. Its my opinion, I'm sure you have your own.
ELP have always been perfect... even thru Works II to ITHS, actually saw Keith playing recently.. he's still perfect.. saw Carl playing even more recently and he's more than perfect... now if I could just get them all perfectly playing with each other... things would be just perfect!!

He recovered from the surgery back in the 90s.. however, his fingers do get a little curled at times. Even when they do curl tho it hasn't affected one note nor the speed of his playing.. for example you'd need to see the ELP Live at Montreux dvd... you can see the fingers curl, but he plays harder and just as fast as he always has. That version of Creole Dance is breathtaking...
Then I saw him do Tarkus a few months ago... that was spectacular. He'll be doing that on the road this summer, he's scheduled for some July shows in Italy...

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
it was a joke about downloading 'Octavarium', referring to the morons that DID try and download it and got 'Elements of persuasion' instead, what idiots...
I look forward to june 7th when I can walk into Tower on Sahara ave. and BUY 'Octavarium' and give it the full attention it needs and hopefully give it a thumbs up, following the disappointment of 'TOT' and get right back on the correct track of 'Six degrees..' and 'Scenes from a memory'.
By the sounds of the sample tracks 'Panic attack' and 'These walls' it will be a step in the right direction!!! Cat wait to hear it guys! Lets hope the tour is as good as the previous ones too.

Iīm a great fan of DT. but i can not say that their work is flawless. Because some of their records are good but nothing relly prog, like ToT ore Awake for me.
I like very much de old prog bands(King Crimson, ELP, Yes, Genesis, LFoyd), mainly because my father is a huge fan of this kind of music.
But my father and a lot of his friends( around 45 all of them), seem to hate the new wave of prog music, they tell me that it is too much heavy, that you canīt feel the music, that is just boring for them.
And I usually argue with them because I DO like old prog , so im able to understand it, but they donīt seem to understand Nothing from prog Metal, perhaps they are a bit tired and they donīt want to spent enough time to listen new music.
I think DT is not the best prog band anyway, but for me is the best music band of the last 50 years, for many reasons that I am not going to tell now. But everyone has his own point of view, therefore, we must spent our efforts on celebrating prog music in general, because for many of us is like the blood inn our veins.

By the way Mr. Fates:
EVERYTHING ELP has done???????????
Are you ABSOLUTELY sure?
I LOVE 'Welcome back my friends..', 'Brain salad surgery' and 'Tarkus'.
BUT
'In the hot seat'? 'Love beach'? and 'Works Vol2'??
they are all at best MARGINAL albums...
by the way, I liked 'Black moon'. I thought the Lake songs on there are amongst his strongest. But 'In the hot seat' was SO patchy.
I LOVE Yes, Genesis, Floyd, Flower kings, IQ, Spocks beard, Rush, ELP, Tull, Dreamtheater, Iron maiden, The Grateful dead, The Enid, Mike Oldfield, Jean michel Jarre, Black sabbath, King crimson. ALL of them....but I dont think ANY of them have escaped making at least one OR two very dubious albums. No one can be perfect ALL the time. Look at Salvador Dali, a genius, but boy he admitted some of his his stuff sucked big time, poor dude was always thinking his parents replaced his dead brother with him...no one can evade mistakes.
NO one. Not even Mike Portnoy and Keith Emerson.

Ah Mr. Transcend, I guess you're somewhat new here and haven't figured out that 3fates is a girl, not a guy. And I'm pretty sure there is nothing that ELP has done that she doesn't find just perfect. She's the only person I know that knows every word to every song Greg Lake has ever sang on.
And the fact that she's been close to Greg Lake a bit over the years in no ways sways her opinion! I wouldn't even bother trying!! hahaha

So Jamie do you think my relationship with Greg sways my opinion on ELP... I don't think so. I didn't have a thing with Carl and Keith.. and they are still my heroes...
And someone else in another thread today mentioned that I have a bias towards David Gilmour for the same reason... give me some credit here... you have heard David Gilmour play haven't you???

Anyhow, I totally understand what you mean... It's really awkward because I totally agree with you, but I also disagree with you.
As I've said, I'd proudly give every Dream Theater album five stars. And yes I do know every song and yes I love every song. If I wanted to write a review and got lazy, I would give a quick five stars and a few lines about why it's good.
Now, I understand what you mean about feeling cheated and stuff, but I feel if someone likes an album and gives it five stars with a very brief comment, that should be good enough. As this is the persons review of the album and it doesn't have to be a huge lecture. At the end of the day you could have ten DT fans give "Awake" five stars with a brief comment with no consideratin... you could hear the album and think it's crap... but who's to blame?
Not you. Not the reviewers.
It's all about personal taste.
(Although I guess you're the one who loses out with the money. )
Peace.

Not really - I can just flog it on eBay to a fanboy...
The trouble I have is that "fanboys" just vote "5 stars", meaning "I think this R00Lz", when in reality, the 5 stars award on this site means that the album is a masterpiece of progressive rock.
Being totally honest, can you really put any DT album at the same level as any of the prog classics, like Foxtrot, CTTE, ITCOTCK, ELP, or any of Jethro Tull's early offerings?
They're not really in the same league - the music is very different, and the skills used to create it are very different - less attention seems to be paid to actual music creation for the sake of great and innovative music, in favour of creating something "safe" - based on existing genres and musical styles. This is something that cannot be said of early Genesis, Tull, Yes, Gentle Giant, VDGG, etc., and is why I believe the latter are in a higher class of music.
When you ignore the virtuosity and the cleanness of execution, can you honestly compare the music of DT with the prog greats?
Just curious...

Now we see why we have a problem with ELP.....
I Love Genesis & Yes - But I don't think that everything they did was perfect - that is the perspective you should get by being a all round progressive rock fanatic - not just blinkered and VERY UNREASONABLE.
DT hit the high spots with Scenes and SDOIT but they didn't get anywhere near that level in most of their other stuff.....
Same as ELP - about 5% brilliant - 30% Good and the rest Garbage (IMHO)....

It would probably grow on me.

Yes, I could. Because it's my opinion. "Close To The Edge" is definately my favourite Yes album, but is far from being my favourite album. King Crimson, ELP and Jethro Tull just don't appeal to me. (Although I do own some of their albums).

Probably. Although that's like saying would Metallica still sound the same without James Hetfield? I can't answer because I love Dream Theater, if they didn't do the big over-the-top solos they wouldn't be Dream Theater.

Because it's all opinion... I think they're perfect, because I love every song of theres. Doesn't mean they are perfect. They just are to me.
Anyway, I'm not fighting with you... I'm enjoying this. This is a good discussion.

Ok good.....no hard feelings..........so you just admitted they aren't perfect, you just think they are cause you love them...basically.
Ididn't think this thread would get so long.
