Looking through so many of these lists I see so many people stuck in the seventies... makes me sad.

What's the prob(prog ) with that? Okay we must move on, but in the 70's as the 00's or 80's or 90's there's like a million bands waiting for you to discover. Every week or so I discover at least one or two new bands, this week Traffic. Last two weeks or so, IQ, Marillion, Pendragon, Flower King and The Tangent.
Let everyone stay in the time they want, but if they get stuck with the same bands, well THAT's a problem. Not saying you can't have a fave, but out of 10 at least 4 or 5 per week or month you change them.

Excuse me but unless you prefer disposable everything (as is the case today) , please remember that art, all art is TIMELESS. No expiry dates.

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I agree. The idea that somehow music stops being good because it was made "x" number of years ago is so laughably absurd that it really boggles the mind.
Can you imagine if people thought that way about Beethoven's 9th and Bach and Copland etc?
Can you even fathom a classical music expert telling another one, "you are so stuck in the 19th century its sad."
LMAO. Some people just don't get it.

Ahhhh!! What is wrong with you people?!
Hardly ANY of you have listed any good bands. What is with all this 60/70's crap?! You can't all be 40 year-olds in here can you?
I didn't realise how many people liked ****, boring and simple rock. Okay here goes:
10. Muse 9. Radiohead 8. Transatlantic 7. Nevermore 6. Adagio 5. Kamelot 4. Liquid Tension Experiment 3. Symphony X 2. Circus Maximus 1. Dream Theater

Well, seven of 'em are metal. metal's a niche dork genre luzl
but seriously I do like Radiohead. I just think it's too much of an irony bomb to come in and chastise people for only listing seventies bands and then following that up with a list of really middle-of-the-road bands from more recent times. it certainly made me giggle

for context, this is a prog rock site :F but my list of favourites would be more like Art Bears, Wyatt, Ground-Zero, Kayo Dot am lam lam lam and other sexy avant bands from various times between now and the sixties so I don't fall entirely into this trap

I don't bother with any of that silly modern fare.
