That kind of makes me laugh. Listening to my collection of Tom Petty CDs, and I think that it is kind of funny that he has released 3 solo albums without the Heartbreakers. It is kind of like, dude, that band is called Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. You don't need to release a solo album. Especially, since I believe that the Heartbreakers contribute to some of his solo material anyways (don't quote me on that though). I think that Bruce Springsteen has release a solo album too. I am sure that there have been other similar "solo" releases.
I find those types of things annoying. If the line-up is like exactly the same, why make a solo release out of it?
I'm pretty sure the lineup is different, even though the heartbreakers do help. Songwriting is very similar though (especially on Full Moon Fever). I'm pretty sure songs form his "solo" and band career both get mixed onto the same greatest hits albums.

Or what its saying is "Hey this is me without a filter. Now I can have an excuse as to why this album is not as good as my others."
Actually, imo Petty's best album (Wildflowers) is solo. (And probably the most truly solo of the bunch, I'd say)
Full Moon Fever is my favorite, and it is solo. Mike Campbell is the guitar player on it as well as the Heartbreakers, but Jeff Lynne plays keyboards instead of the Heartbreaker's keyboardist, and there is a different drummer and numerous guests. Wildflowers actually has all of the Heartbreakers on it, plus some additional musicians.
Oops, I should have been clearer, I meant in terms of sound rather than lineup

This is my first time through his discography in quite awhile. Kind of the same deal. I was a big fan in the 80's/90's. I saw him live once. Aside from an occasional listen or hearing him on the radio I haven't listened to him too much in the last 5 to 10 years. Certainly nothing earthshattering or groundbreaking, but still something about him that I like quite a bit. He certainly didn't become a star based on his charming good looks.

I have the cartoon guide to Calculus. I need to get to reading that.
You're 12, you won't understand calculus.
I think It'll be a little challenging, but I'm doing 8th grade math next year, and they start teaching it in, what, 9th or 10th grade? And sense they probobly put it in easier to understand terms, I think I'll be able to do it.
