oh come on man.. that is fake news.. don't be a part of the problem.. be a part of the solution andget it right.
I have it on good authority.. a friend of mine here is a secret service agent and if I get him drunk enough he tends to spill to me the juicy details of what goes on..

what's up with that Steve? wtf? come on man... what have I been talking about for 2 plus years and hundreds of pages of these various political threads.
That .. is what the Republican Party has become... and it is what it is going to kill it nationally. Due to the way the numbers game plays out in the Senate they will always be a power there.. but if this continues that might be it.. and as I've been saying and last night was proof on top of years of proof.. that party has to some .. inkling.. hint of wanting to change.. repudiating, nor counting them as their core support, white navivists, bigots and racists for that was exactly what was in play last night. Neither the party or most importantly.. their core support show any desire to change.
It was racial politics.. even Republican leadership knew she was unqualified and one mess as a candidate and wanting the MS Gov to appoint someone more... umm.. LESS racist.. but in the end they.. and more importantly.. white Republican voters fell in line and marched to the beat.. again.. the beat that is taking them right off the cliff. For what do you think young voters are seeing when they see this.. what do think educated suburbanits nationwide are seeing...
Anyhow.. MS has the highest proportion of black voters of any state in the country.. it is 60-40 white to black. Problem was last night.. they needed 'rational' Republicans to step forward for in that state while blacks vote 90-10 Democratic.. while whites go 80-20 Republican. They didn't do bad last night.. especially with a black candidate but only managed to get 30% of the white vote.. thus making the end closer than most statewide races are there.. but the racial/partisan divide was too much to overcome so few really thought Espy had any real chance to win.

She's appalling, even without the hanging comment the photos of her wearing the Confederate uniform was just sad. What is wrong with people.

well to be honest.. is anyone surprised.. Hyde-Smith was just the cherry on top of appaling, unqualified candadates that seems to be the flag bearers for that party since 2016.. first there was Trump, then Kavanaugh....
what is wrong with people... if I had that answer David.. I wouldn't be sitting here at PA's drinking beer listening to Jumbo at insane decibel levels..
though.. not sure where I would be if I did haha. Perhaps you'd be seeing my cute ass on TV.. perhaps FAUX news trying to score some of the 'talent' that network seems to have in spades.. and telling Republcians what they need to hear..
they truly are f**ked... and if they don't get themselves unf**ked and start looking past the 2 feet in front of their faces.. they are soon going to be a permanent opposition party whose only chance of power is getting a majority in the Senate. If this keeps up, and again.. there is no reason to see they are not going to until they have already run off the cliff and obvviously be far too late to try to change/moderate/ie move LEFT.... the White House and House of Rep's will be out of their ability to contest. Which will be fatal for them, or any political party in a 2 party system such as ours.

so all eyes now turn to 2020... at least until Mueller drops his bomb on Trump....
read several very interesting things over the last few days which may take whatever small chance Trump had at winning in 2020 and if true.. make them the same chance I do of becoming that famous porn star.
Why did GM do what it did.. it sees what is coming. A severe econonomic downturn.. seeing what some have suspected that the corporate tax cuts have artificially propped the stock market and made the impact of Trump's policies slow in arriving but arrive they are going to.. for part of GM's decision was based on increased prices on parts due to his tariffs.
in hand with that.. seeing some numbers that farmers who are getting hammered due the tariffs may the first of Trump's core support to dump him.. still don't expect many farm states to turn red.. but i suspected Iowa was an outlier.. much like PA, WI, and MI but different reasons. Losing Iowa at the very least makes his very narrow path to 270.. even harder to reach...
of course the fun will be watching Trump try to deflect the blame.. onto Democrats of course.. but that is already showing signs (as the Dems haven't even taken power yet) of not really flying.. not with those directly affected.. thus actually paying attention to what has been going on and who has been in charge.
the other interesting one.. sort of lost in the shuffle of all the broader electoral trends, the realignment as it were, is what happened in Florida in 2018. The rise of the power of the PR vote which went heavily democratic but which for the first time matched . and is projected to exceed in the years to come the largely Republican cuban vote. Far from turning red as some think.. that states trends are pointing it to blue.. again as the electorate gets younger and older voters which there are bunch there hahah.. pass on...
it did shift approx 1% from red to blue 2016-2018.. if it does that again from 2018-2020.. Trump doesn't win it and pretty much has ZERO chance to win in 2020. Even if the economic downturn showhow does not happen.. and few really think it is not coming...

^ Yeah I've been trying to pay more attention to the redistricting. And as far as a generational change, one can only hope younger will mean more enlightened. Presumably new gens will be more exposed and less afraid of people who are different. Certainly sexual identity acceptance has come a long way, cultural & racial acceptance not as much but I have some hope.
People have to be exposed in positive (or just normal) ways to other lives and lifestyles in order for the alienation and ignorance to lessen. Not everyone grows up in Portland or S.F. ;)

I so agree with not surprised, but terribly disappointed. Nonetheless, having an enforced time in the South for 9 years, it still saddens me, both Blackburn and Hyde-Smith. The worst kind of women. Kind of infuriating, actually. Sigh.
I do hope they keep constructing their own demise, however...it's a nasty group of people they've aligned themselves with and I think, even with these small wins, most of the country does not agree with them.

Yes, I do think the younger ones are going to slay these red dragons in time. I know quite a few (as my son is one [25yo], mostly raised in the south, as were his friends and they are all very tolerant...and brilliant, I might add ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) ). I also worked with a lot of "kids," in Nashville when I lived there and they are very active and very liberal. They were all appalled that Blackburn won over Bredesen in their home state...They will become the change that needs to happen. Not to mention all of those kids from FL who have become so motivated to be involved in politics after their horrific experiences there in recent times. So maybe the south is capable of actually making changes, it just will take a bit longer there (as it always has).

^ yeah... I know what you mean. Granted I know.. oh baby how do I know ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) .. that women can be just as mean, petty, vicious, and nasty as men.. worse in fact if they are redheads hahah
in general I have a much much higher opinion of women than I do of men. Perhaps I do hold an unfairly idealistic view of women but fair or unfair it does run contrary to those kind of women. That is the kind of crap I expect from men.. not women who I sort of envision as being more forward thinking, responsible, and quite simply knowing better than any man can just what our place in life is all about.
it ain't getting what you can when the gettin' is good for oneself.. it is more a greater common good.
perhaps I'm just being silly.. a dreamer as you call 'em.. but like you.. I'm sticking to it.

yeah, the Dems did make big gains at the local/statewide level... helping cut big time in the large deficiit that was largely fueled by neglect by Obama and the DNC. About time they finally got wise and saw just how important those offices are, especially with the census and redistricting coming upon us. Virginia last year was a perfect example. Solid red at the state level... got smoked in the 2017 election and teh Dems came within a coin flip.. literally for I think that is how it was settled... of taking control of the state house.
anyhow.. yes I do have high hopes for the future.. one without the Republican Party of today in it.
I do think part of the reason the youth have and are swinging so heavily Democratic.. even more than historic levels is part of the sence that many Trump voters and those that still support him have ignorantly stuck their heads in the sand about...
this.. all this... what is going on... it just isn't right man. It is the America our parents knew, sh*t man... it isn't the America WE once knew.. and it isn't the America that they learned in school... you know.. the ideals of which our nation was formed upon. Trump.. and his supporters.. have sh*t all over that.
Kids know that.. I do feel they can sense what you and I and others can explicitely see and feel
anyhow... I thought perhaps I had told you once David. My particular views on race were in fact formed.. not by the years living in the south... Texas, Mississippi, North Carolina and now Virginia.. but as child in Portland and having my best friend taken away from me .. leaving me as it were.. simply because he was black.
His family didn't dig he was going to a primarily white schooll and wanted him being around his own..
it put the zap on little Micky's head which made me intensely interested and passionate about the subject

I've found that either sex can be pretty nasty, or pretty wonderful. I've always hung out "with the guys," and people of all sorts, for some crazy reason, frequently confide in me. So I feel that I have a pretty deep insight into both.
But I agree, when women are behind the subjugation of others, it seems particularly reprehensible. As it is when anyone who is oppressed becomes the oppressor.
Remember Phyllis Schlafly? Is there a "barf," emoticon here?
There is some kind of correlation, it would seem to me, of the Stockholm syndrome. Nothing else seems to explain how this happens. Or those who have been abused turn to abuse? Not an excuse, but perhaps an explanation.
You are not silly to dream. If you can't dream, you can't know what to do to make it come true, or even recognize that it has come to pass.
Keep on sticking to it!

it put the zap on little Micky's head which made me intensely interested and passionate about the subject | Wow, Mike, no you never mentioned that. That must've been very difficult and confusing for a kid. I know Portland has a strong conservative, church-going community which I was always a bit at odds with when I was there. It is an interesting mix of arty liberals with rightist preppers, and in many ways mirrors the reality of this country but also how we could all live together well. Portland has its extremists on both sides right now but the people all seem to get along well, much like S.F. Heck most of the real hippies migrated to Oregon or NorCal anyway, and I see far fewer skinheads in downtown Porty than I did twenty years ago.

It's that need for community, or family, I think. That's what kind of feeds gang mentality as well. Feelings aren't always logical, unfortunately. But I believe in both (logic and feeling).

yes, yes but racial politics have been a part of the south since before the Civil War. The problem is that of the 40% of the Black voters the percentage of who actually or legally can vote is disproportionate to that of white voters. Some of it's due to voter suppression and some due to apathy of the voters.
