Thanks Daniel, that was all very interesting. Does anyone know who else voted for Herbie Hancock's Crossings besides myself?

I *think* voted for Crossings, Mwandishi and Sextant. It sounds like the sort of thing I'd do.

Well, I'm with el Bothy saying that Lateralus should have done better! Aenima got a pretty good spot, and review snippet , but 10000 days dosent deserve the top two hundred.

Kenmar, have you seen review for Pain of Salvations The Perfect Element? I dont think I could really explain better than that why I consider it to be my favourite album.

Sleeper (Andrew), Thanks for the redirect, I read your whole review. time for me to check out Pain of Salvation though I'm hit and miss when it comes to the hard stuff. I like PT and Riverside but don't care for Dream Theater or Opeth (except Damnation). How would you describe their sound? Kenmar

So I wanted to share a "snippet" about my favorite album, "The Lamb". I figure most of you are familar with the music so I won't waste time talking about that. In 1978 I was at a friend's house and heard for the first time 'Dancing with the Moonlit Knight', I asked who it was and from that point forward Gabriel has been my favorite artist. I loved SEBTP right from the start, I think the deck must have been uneven! 'The Lamb' took a lot longer but as is most often the case a little digging offers rewards. Once hooked I listened to ' The Lamb' every day trying to unearth meaning within its mysteries. I was 18 at the time so there was the whole girls are so confusing thing that related to "Counting Out Time' and finally the lose of virginity associated with ' The Lamia'. But the real kicker was the end of ' In the Rapids' when Rael sees that John is himself. At its root, this is a story of abandonment which hit home with me because my biological father left my mom while she was pregnant with me. She gieved while I gestated. Those of us with abandonment issues then end up abandoning ourselves and so this is also a story of self-realisation and healing. I've travelled around the world, listened to ' The Lamb' in Bali and sung it to monkeys, in Nepal and sung it to the mountains. 30 years is a lot of history with an album, impossible to convey the emotions that swirl when I hear this music. I had no friends that were into prog, no internet to hear others opinions while I digested Trespass, Nursry Crime, Foxtrot... It was my own world. Later I found out that a lot of people don't like disc 2 of the lamb, wow. while I grant you that The waiting room and Silent Sorrow... are filler, I still love Disc 2 of the lamb. Plus it has my favorite song, "In the rapids" I'll also grant you that the ending isn't as good as SEBTP and the magestic close of the Cinema show, I have to admit that It is a bit anitclimatic to me, ... still as a story that makes you work to find 'hidden doors, more appluase' and the emotion contained in Gabriel's voice, this is his masterpiece.
One more comment on the list and thanks itsy for all your work, I find it amazing that Trespass finished at 161, to me this album is an absolute gem and only a hair behink 'Foxtrot" and SEBTP and that's saying a lot. Would love to hear from anyone who disagrees or agrees. Kenmar

They're unique to be honest. The composition of the songs is the most important thing with them, then showing off their abilities. They can get quite heavy but its nothing compared to Train of Thought or Opeth, and they have plenty of soft parts as well. Your a fan of Genesis so you will probably be able to spot the similarities between the two bands, namely the way they go about music, tr The Perfect Element first. I hope we do this again, I've already got a number of albums I'd like to add to my list that could make some difference to the overall list (The Power to Believe will jump up a few spots for starters).

^ Thanks I'll give them a try. I also wanted to comment on Bacamarte not being on our list. Just speaking for myself, I haven't heard it. I've tried to find a copy, in vien. I suspect that may be the case for a lot of us who voted.

^^ were trying to do one of these lists every year was it? i wouldnt want to overwork Daniel. I think the list will have more participants next time, like yourself.

Absolutely. I think I might do a genre list or something like that next, to give everyone more time for songs.

A song list will be near impossible because for the first 50 songs there will be no distinction between them. And the list will be huge. It also will take me forever to make that kind of a list. A genre album top whatever sounds great to me. Start with symphonic please.
And did my list have the biggest number of none prog albums?

What's your special album?
Ok, so while we wait for the Top 10, I've been having a little fun with the data. For everyone who submitted a list, I've found out what I'm calling your "special album". It's the highest ranked album on each list that didn't appear on anyone else's list. These are the albums that you love, but no one else seems to care about!
The number in parenthesis is the album's rank on the person's list. As you can see, most people had one in their top 10. Enjoy.

I think you mixed up Zappa88 and I as I didn't even put Iron Butterfly on my list and I only put Bedlam that high for the lulz for the lulz edit: I see it has been fixed

nobody else had Division Bell in their top albums at all? wow, I know its nowhere near Pink Floyd's best (or proggiest), but I thought the guitar work on this album was amazing.
