I was lucky enough to see Spock's Beard in 2011. Excellent - I was very presently surprised. It's mainly pastiche but carried off with such panache!

I;m looking forward to shining The Light on Spock's Beard's debut if it's anywhere near as good as the Neal Morse Band's "Grand Experiment" album.

Pallas - The Sentinel: an excellent debut from this Scottish band, but wait until you hear their most recent album - the best Neo Prog album to The Edge of Time itself! 2019: Pallas - The Edge of Time - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpJaD0QSr9lGkp1eKc2ZJDyA

Pendragon: I have nothing but Pure Love for this amazing band, when Love Over Fear conquers all. If you have the Passion to Believe in the awesome Power of Prog, then Pendragon are one of the best-known Neo Prog bands in The World and a real Jewel in the English crown - both Past and Presence! The coolest video for cats from Porcupine Tree's psychedelic debut.

Unluckily for some, I'll have to skip the debut album by Present - Triskaidekophobia, as it's currently unavailable on YouTube at present, although if the discordant shambles below is anything to go by, we're not missing out on much.

Riverside - Out of Myself: a well-polished debut from this Polish band rising from Warsaw. This is Progressive Metal, Jim, but not as we know it. Whereas the Progressive Metal of Dream Theater and Opeth is like a raging torrent, the melodic music of Riverside is Poles apart, sounding more like a gently flowing stream, so if you're still In Two Minds about Riverside, then check out the great song below.

Clueless as usual, it's a masterpiece, rehearsal intensive and highly composed Edited by Nogbad_The_Bad - April 14 2022 at 11:26 |

Check the rating, it's 4.29, there are loads of people who are into this type of music who recognize it's excellence. It's dissonant by design. Your beloved Mostly Autumn is a 3.5.
By all means don't like it but don't call it a shambles. |

I noticed Present and Mostly Autumn are presently on four votes each in the poll, so any prog credibility I had left remaining has just taken another plunge.

Solstice: the Best of British Neo Prog, sounding remarkably like YES on "Peace" - the first track from their first album.

^ I'm rapidly going off Avant Prog, having listened to the debut albums by the Cardiacs, Guapo & Present and given them all the thumbs down, which doesn't bode well for me liking the upcoming debuts by Swans or Thinking Plague either.

I predict you'll hate both, give them a try, I've never heard Swans early stuff but the later stuff is very good. Thinking Plague got better after the first two but they certainly have their charms for fans of this stuff. |
