Rare Goat hasn't played together in a while, actually, and we're having our first full rehearsal in about 2 months tonight.  Circumstances in our respective lives and the lack of gigs has made us put the band aside for a while.  Still not sure what our next move is.  I'm not particularly inspired to come up with new songs, and I'm not particularly excited to play new tunes by Jack or Bob.   Maybe I'll get the bug again soon, but I've just been kind of depressed lately.

I know what it's like to kinda feel creatively separate from your band and your bandmates, especially ones with different taste. We've been doing out best to recommend each other our favorite music even if we think the others won't like it. To be fair, our musical tastes already overlapped a lot, but it helped to give each other's intrinsic tastes a chance. I'd recommend this if you haven't done it.

And it's really easy for me to say what I'm going to say because, while I get writer's block, I have lots of time on my hands to push through, whereas you don't. I think though, you should mainly express what you want how you want. If it fits with Rare Goat, good. If it doesn't, don't sweat it. You have a blank canvas of sound. You can make that sound with literally anything you want to use around you, including instruments, kitchen appliances, and a wealth of electronic sounds on the internet. You can assemble that sound however you like, except that you should make sure that you are saying what you want to say through it, which includes emotions, but also thoughts, ideas, images, colors, entire eras of art, whatever. You don't have to give a thought to styles or theory. If it's poppy, it's poppy. If it's experimental, it's experimental. Don't think about Rare Goat when you write. Don't think about your lo-fi solo project. Just make sound. Craft it such that your personality is in every frequency. That's it.

I've been there. Listening to the rest of the album doesn't help at all.
