Those 4 guys I mention are essentially Hannities as far as I'm concerned....no better or worse. People always talk about bipartisanship, etc, it isn't going to happen unless we stop screaming and demonizing each other with words. That includes watching people like this.
We have different philosophies on how society should run. That's our problem. If we try to be civil and figure out some way to make our math add up, we might have a chance. If we just sit here, point figures, and call each other racists, fascists, etc, because it helps us score points with people watching on the sidelines, we're finished. Either we have some basic mutual respect or I'm not interested in what people have to say. That means we don't refer to our opponents as nazis and we don't shout down the other side when they are speaking. I understand you think "my side" deserves it. I'm not interested in debating you. I'm simply here to make a point that our leaders and our media need to act and lead more responsibly, and they can't do it by screaming and feet stamping, or by poisonous charges based on half truths and spin. I say the same thing to both sides. Grow the hell up. They are both guilty. Edited by Finnforest - January 20 2013 at 15:26 |

Completely agree with this statement. That's why I don't watch Maher, even if I do often agree with him. You can disagree, and even be funny about disagreeing, without being completely insulting. And those in public office can disagree and still be diplomatic - the reason we're getting nowhere is because we've lost the art of compromise. |

Cool, Geoff, I can respect that.
As a side note, the site where Wellstone's plane went down is a few minutes drive from my sister's place....I went there after it happened just to pay my respects I guess. A good man. He was the only Democrat running for re-election in 2002 to vote against the Iraq invasion. Edited by Finnforest - January 20 2013 at 16:04 |

Still talking about Fox news/pundits?
Ugh...they already fill our nation with BS, PA is usually an escape BOTH sides need to start thinking for themselves and not regurgitating whoever is the face for their ideology (be it Limbaugh/Beck or Stewart/Krugman) Yeah Wellstone was the man. As was Feingold and especially Kucinich. Shame they all got booted out/are dead :( Edited by JJLehto - January 20 2013 at 16:29 |

Did you know Kucinich is now a Fox pundit. Just signed a big contract.

^I know I will get Geoff's hate for this but, pundits aside (again, pundits aside), I feel FoxNews is less biased than CNN or MSNBC.

That doesn't even deserve a response. |

Ok, actually I will give it a response by rewording this so you see how dumb it is: "putting aside all the people who talk, I think news organization A is less biased than B or C. I mean, if you ignore everyone who works for them, that is." |

I know what Teo is saying Geoff. I just don't think you see liberal bias, because you're so in the tank for that side, so the thought seems outlandish.

They're both biased. But Fox News is biased in a much meaner, spiteful, reactionary, and fear-mongering way. Not all is equal.

If you're talking punditry, no way Stonie. The worst fox tendencies are mirrored by Schultz, Matthews, O Donnell, Olbermann, etc......again, I just think you guys only see venom one way.
Don't feel bad, I've noticed this about liberals......it has become ingrained somehow.....the big bad Fox is horrible.....but they're perfectly willing to give vitriol a pass coming from lefties. That's how it is. Edited by Finnforest - January 20 2013 at 21:01 |

I'm talking Stewart and Colbert, who I like, though I don't really watch their shows. Olbermann is kind of an ass, and so is Maher. That's all I know. I don't really watch pundit shows, but when I did Fox News was often really horrific. I don't really mind O'Reilly a lot of the time, but Hannity is not a good person. Pundits are one thing, but bringing up Cheney, Palin, and Huckabee as advisers or experts shows a network's true colors, if nothing else did.

Oh OK, I wasn't referring to those two Stonie, with my post.
Maybe Kucinich will bring some relief for you guys at Fox. |

Though I'm somewhat left of center, I actually prefer Fox because I feel like I'm not getting what I'd prefer to hear. Which is good.

I applaud that David. I try to see different points of view as well. And as I've made clear so many times, I just bristle at incivility. I will listen to anyone until they start to demonize and belittle their opponent. You can make a case about something without insisting your opponent is ignorant/evil. Because in most cases, they're not. They just have a different view. |

I hardly ever watch news, I'm more of a news reader. I like my TV far too much to soil it with the news and I'm afraid I'd end up throwing something through my tv if I ever watched Fox.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I quite like the idea of the TV News not being biased, if I want biased news I'll buy a Newspaper (and that's not a good thing either - I don't read newspapers very often).

I feel that avoiding all three of the big channels, and all the people that contribute on them, is safest for sanity, reason, truth and honesty.
Read more, listen less. Ears are for music, not stuffing full of bullsh*t from overpaid and out-of-touch bloviators who treat news a weapon. |
