Maybe he has a genius IQ, I don't know, but nothing struck me as being the work of a musical genius (a term I would use very reluctantly at the best of times).  Just about five years ago (or less than) I got back into Prog in a big way, and I tthen wanted to modernise my tastes, and following recommendations (and proclamations of his genius status) I bought a SPock's Beard CD (biggest disappointment to date) and it put me of modern Prog for a short time.  Luckily, I quickly discovered with my own research Miriodor, and then Volapuk, which got me back on track. Big smile

I don't mean to offend anyone, but honestly, If I want to hear symph, I want to hear an actual symphony.
I take a liking towards metal and increasingly over time, avant garde prog stuff because I hate prog rock that is constantly melodic, it grates on my ears, so Symph is out.

I can't comment on your album, but am also of the opinion that modern symph tends to suck ( I have heard some music I like).  I'm not that big on even classic symph generally.

And yeah, the religious thing is kinda off putting.
I can listen to Christian death metal, because fortunately the growls mask most of the lyrics anywayLOL
Seriously though, the band that is 27th on my last fm list is a Christian death metal band, but when you can't understand most of the vocals, it's hard to find it too preachy:P

And I'm the exact opposite as you.  I was discernible structure and melody.

(I must always use the adjective "discernible" when describing avant-garde or people like Alex will argue with me that Henry Cow does so have structure).

Oh there is stuff I like.  I used to like symph considerably, but as I grew more into the chamber side of things, symph lost a lot of appeal.

Not bad, but V is definitely their best work, if only for the two longest tracks.

Greg, I recently got Jongleries Élastiques and was a bit underwhelmed, actually.

I just bothered to read Art Zoyd's bio on PA now.
I'm going to take the plunge and give them a go.
Recommend me their finest.
Seriously, for someone like me who hungers for music that isn't overly melodic and 'structured' normally, I see myself really getting into RIO a bit more.

Any of their first four is outstanding - but try the debut first, Symphonie Pour La Jour Ou Brouleront Les Cites.  I find myself returning to that often.

Cheers, I'll find 'em and listen to them.
Inspiration to start my RIO technical death metal band.

Or not.

Approve
Give me a few more months to absorb more RIO music in my ears and I'll start a MIO band.

I've been awake way too long though, I should have went to bed 2 hours ago.
I guess I'll be back in about 9 hours if anyone is around, heh.

It felt shallow, quite unpleasant, and insipid to me at the time, and quite unoriginal while not even being up to the standards of that which it was influenced by (and it felt so AORish).  I really thought prog would have progressed more and become even more adventurous in that time.  Morse's vocals I imagine are an acquired taste.  I loved GG and Genesis back then, and was hoping for something more "inspired" if not necessarily mind-blowing.  Been years since I last listened to it.
