Oh and Patrick, let me know what your thoughts of Catherine Jauniaux's Fluvial album are.  I mean when you hear it... whenever that is,

I find it rather disappointing.

Anyhow... must go.

Hopefully not the abysmal thing he did with Jimmy Page? Angry

I wasn't aware he ever did anything with Jimmy Page.
In fact, he hasn't, so I have no idea what you mean there.

Go and steal it from him! Now! LOL

Seriously, DP with the London Symphony Orchestra features Steve Morse, while the one with Ritchie is the 1969 'original' version of Concerto for Group and Orchestra

Ah, I'm sure the Richie Blackmore one was a London concert... Confused

Hmm, then it must be Live in London with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, though that's a pretty new release, hmm...

Rico, incidentally since I've been gone, do you have Magma's Retrospektiw 1-2?  Awesome.  Blows the M.D.K. studio album out of the water for me, and of course it has the fabulous "Theusz Hamtaahk".  Know you're not that big on Centigrades, but it was "'Iss'" Lansei Doia" that really turned me onto that album -- remains one of my fave Magma tracks.

PS. ANyone who appreciates Progressive Electronic is cool in my books.  Love lots of PE.

PPS And Morte Macabre is great despite the Mellotron (as with mnay other albums).

Nowt wrong with Mellotron when it's used correctly. Wink

And yes, Retrospektiw I-II is deadly.  Deadlier than a Dead Dodo with mandibles and a poisonous bite.

All Magma will be listened in due time. Approve

The epic was the reason for my bad aftertaste of Centigrade, while the other two tracks pushed it towards a compromise, since they were pretty good.

Yeah, difference being I don't like Puff Daddy at all and he just sucks anyway.
Dr Dre seriously grooves though.
And he actually uses studio musicians instead of samples, which is a plus.
I thought I'd hate it, and I started listening to him 2 weeks ago and actually really like it, lol.

Jimmy Page wasn't a sample on that Puff Daddy record I don't think.

You just contradicted yourself. LOL

Don't think so.  I'm sure it's late '60s/early '70s.  Might be bootleg material on a compilation.

I loved ELP some years ago, but now find most of it almost unlistenable (save certain tracks).  Trilogy was one of my favourite albums.

My mistake, if the album is called Live in London, it was released in 1982, just checked in PA.

But you say you think it's from th 60's or 70's, I really can't help you there....

But that's not the point, hahaha, buy Concerto! No, really, if you ever go to buy CD's or LP's, and find Concerto somewhat cheap, get it! Tongue

What?
What are you even talking about James?
I wasn't even talking about Jimmy Page in that post. I didn't say anywhere that "Jimmy Page was just a sample on a Puff Daddy record".
I didn't contradict myself anywhere.
And even if he were, I wouldn't know either because I don't listen to Puff Daddy.

Dr Dre doesn't like to use samples in his music, he's even said so himself that's his approach.
If you actually followed my post and read that I was talking about Dr Dre in that instance.

Speaking of dislike, am I wrong to not consider Neal Morse the genius that some do?  Seriously, what is about him that gets so much acclaim from certain quarters (I find it particularly surprising at a Prog site which includes so many highly talented and innovative musicians)?  Is it the religion thing?  I mean, I know that it's really a matter of taste, but people proclaiming him a genius?  I can appreciate the musical chops of people I don't necessarily like, but just don't get such high praise for him (or Spock's Beard).

I'm not a fan of Neal Morse at all, really, but a lot of people around here really enjoy him.  I don't get the genius tag either.

I wouldn't call Neal Morse a genius by ANY means, but he's a great key player nonetheless. Though of course, all of you here, I assume, are quite haters of the Retro-Symphonic-"Scene"..

Spock's Beard sounds like just another modern symph band to me.
I have yet to hear modern symph that didn't totally suck.

From what I can tell, it's the "religion thing" that turned many people off.

I tend to think of his compositional skills as excellent (in general- he's written his fair share of stinkers).  He's also a highly skilled keyboard player.

With Spock's Beard, his best work is "Go the Way you Go," "At the End of the Day," and "The Great Nothing."  As a solo artist, ? is a very good album (as is One).  Sola Scriptura is also very good, but is really progressive metal if you ask me.
