DREAM THEATER — Awake
Review by lucapepi_mus
This album is the most exciting I've ever heard.
It's simply amazing, every song is fantastic and John Petrucci is the MONSTER of the guitar.
The sound is very dark and LaBrie's performance is absolutely brilliant expecially
in "Innocent Fated" .
Portnoy is a drum-machine and the intro of 6.00 is really good.
Myung do his job and Moore is fantastic in the sad song called "Space dye vest". Okay, I'm pretty new to the site and haven't written any reviews
yet, but this review is rather vacuous praise over substance. I
don't imagine there's much of a problem with it, but I wonder if it's
appropriate in a review for somebody to tell others to "Buy this
CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!" If it were said like "I recommend this CD for
those who enjoy [whatever]" then fine. As with any album, some
will like it, some won't. |

TOOL — 10,000 Days
Review by moose inspector (Stuart Haigh) If you're a Tool fan, buy this album. If you're not a Tool fan, buy this album. Not too much can be added to the reviews here. This is without a doubt their best offering yet (this is of course in my humble opinion). I bought it yesterday and rushed home excited to put it on. I have to say that this is the first album I have bought that has stopped me in my tracks because of the artwork! There is nothing about the music here !

Dutch reviews for translation ... anybody?SUPERSISTER — Superstarshine vol. 3Review by dvaggelen
(I'm sorry folks, but it's in Netherlands) (Dutch is a wrong English word, just like German) Posted Tuesday, March 02, 2004, 07:05 EST | Permanent link SUPERSISTER — Superstarshine vol. "Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”
"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present." |

Not very impressive, these reviews.
Translation 1:
It's a pity that the song "A girl like you" on this CD is the long album-version. On the original LP is the single-version. Maybe it is time for a new compilation CD with all singles (A- and B-sides) and the most important album-tracks. The concert of Supersister in 1971 in Baarn (a town in the Netherlands) (in Castle Groeneveld) I will never forget. Dick van Aggelen Hilversum (another town in the Netherlands) - the Netherlands
Translation 2:
(sorry, this is also in Dutch) I consider this their best album that I know. My father played it for me lately, I think they filled the lack of a guitar very well on this album with flute and keyboards.
That's it.

It's ironic how certain people can't even write a semi-decent review in their OWN language.

YES — Going for the One
Review by Tasartir (Alejandro) Worth just because of Awaken. I don't mean to disturb anyone at all but I do believe this album could have ranked much higher if it had just been an EP with the song Awaken and some other live songs on it (like Dream Theater's Change of Seasons). Awaken is beatifully done, so many parts to it, very melodic, incredible...takes you to another world and leaves you there. Just buy this CD expecting one good song....then see if you like the rest...I certainly don't. Well... how about this one? I certainly understand everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion, but this 'review' only mentions one song - I strongly get the impression the reviewer hasn't even listened to the other ones.
Besides that - why should this album be better when it would've been an EP etc.? Sounds like nonsense to me.
Anyway, I concur if you guys consider it acceptable... |

Hi Atkingani.
I think the first Dutch review should also be "vergeten" (forgotten), since it only mentions that one of the songs on the CD version is the long version as opposed to the LP where that song is the single (shorted) version. The rest has no bearing on the album, but just mentiones how much the person enjoyed a concert of Supersister in 1971. So the music of the album is not discussed at all! AND THEN 5 stars are awarded without ANY justification!

Yes, Soul Dreamer, I agree with you... but I tend to look a bit friendly for reviews done in 2003/2004 since the great majority of them are "weak" for the present PA standards.
PA members are improving greatly their reviews (which is good) but sometimes we disdain old ones which were made in a different environment. However, the chance for that particular review to remain is minimal indeed.
