Grand Parade and Chamber of 32 Doors are very good songs but IMO they don't fit the flow of the album. As I said, they would greatly improve Trick of the Tail.
Whenever I play The Lamb nowadays I exclude these two tracks and restrict Silent Sorrow in Empty boats to the first forty 40 seconds. The result, to my ears, is the best studio album ever made. It's in the top five anyway.
I agree that Counting Out Time is the worst track on the album but humour is never far below the surface in the Lamb, and it does flow very nicely from Hairless Heart and again very nicely into Carpet Crawlers.

I personally never cared for "Carpet Crawlers", or at least thought it was all that special...
I always liked "Chamber of 32 Doors". Good melodies and lyrics. Particularly the line "I need someone to believe in, someone to trust" resonated well with my 16 year-old ears, which was my age when I first heard it. "Counting out Time" resonated for *different* reasons ... and it still transports me back to a time in my life that I look upon quite fondly.

Anything could improve Trick of the Tail.

Same. I love all the tracks on The Lamb, except for it. and Carpet Crawlers, along with Slippermen are probably the best songs on the album.

Me too. It's a nice contrast to the rest of the music.
|
Me three. Ommadawn is one of those albums that every note and chord progression is absolutely perfect. Some of the most beautiful, sublime and ethereal music I've ever experienced. Surely Mike's best by an extremely large margin compared to Tubular Bells and Hergest Ridge. The only things that come close, but not too close, is Incantations and Amarok.

As do I. I've just never thought "Carpet Crawlers" was any more than just another good tune from "The Lamb", but its probably my least favorite on the album.

I'd rather say that On Horseback is the only section within Ommadawn part 2 that does not ruin the album.

Just throw in "Ladies of the Road" and "Islands" is a gone-er.

That's funny because I think "Countdown" is the best track off Signals.

Hmm "The Waiting Room" would be 3rd from last for me.
2nd least: Ravine Least: Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats
I can see why Peter needed them (for his costumes, and what not) but they should have left them out of the album.

I agree with you on Ravine, but The Waiting Room And Silent Sorrow are some of the best tracks on the album.

Funny how tastes differ. To me Carpet Crawlers is the best track on the album and the third best track Genesis ever did.

Oh, no, I love these ... that's the reason why I gave the album a four. I just think that tracks 1 and 3 ... oy!

I think it's the second best track on the whole album . Don't bother asking me what tracks on the record are the worst, though.

I'm always amused by people on here that don't get The Lamb. Do you not ever have screwed up dreams? That is what it is all about. I wouldn't take away a damned thing from it. It would be diminished.
