Interesting stat for ya'll.

With the Mariners this year, Cliff Lee has more wins that walks given up for the season.  5 wins, 4 walks.

And this on a team that is so offensively challenged that it is historically bad, at least for the franchise if not all of MLB.

I'd love to see him stay, but realistically this guy needs to be on a performing team and the M's need offense.
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

I had a feeling that that might happen after the incident with Hanley Ramirez.  It is unfortunate, but managers/head coaches seem to have a tendency of becoming expendable once they try and make examples out of star players.

Heart finally started beating.
Yanks win 6-5 over the D-Backs (who I still hate to this day) in a bad bad, sloppy game.
But a W in the end.

Mo pitched 2 full innings, including going up to bat, and worked out of no outs bases loaded, and won the game on a swing and miss. Classic Mo!

The Buccos are 21 games under .500, this team is making the '62 Mets look like Champions.

Nah, you guys are trying to shatter the record!

Looking forward to tonight! I'm not sure if the Yanks have played Torre yet, and also instead of staying up for absolutely no reason, at least I got one now!

The Buccos need pitching something bad. They get a 2,3,4,or even 5 run lead and can't hold it. The A's are looking like the Yankees this moment against this pitching staff.

Carlos Zambrano sent home after temper tantrum. What set him off this time?

Did he not get the Milton Bradley teammate of the month award?

The Tigers got screwed by poor umpiring again today.  With the Tigers trailing 4 to 3 in the 9th inning with the bases loaded, two outs, and a full count the Braves pitcher threw a pitch that was at least a foot outside and the ump called strike 3 to end the game.  The pitch wasn't even close.

From the Sports Illustrated article:

Moylan, Atlanta's third pitcher of the inning, finally ended the game by getting Damon on a called third strike. It was Moylan's first save since 2008.

The Tigers weren't happy with the call.

" We can't do it over again,'' Damon said. " I told (plate umpire Gary Cederstrom) he missed it. I told him the pitch was outside."

Detroit manager Jim Leyland said, " I don't need to comment. I know it was outside. The pitch wasn't even close."

Holding his hands about a foot apart, Leyland said, " It was that much outside."

The Jim Joyce call on Galarraga really sucked but at least it didn't cost the Tigers a game like this call did. AngryAnd I'm pretty sure there will be no apology forthcoming from this umpire.

Funny you should bring this up, I heard at least twice yesterday on two different broadcasts(Fox and  Local Cards game) that it appears that the game is shifting back to the pitchers. Could the umpires be causing it to be so?

The Buccos. Will they win 50 games this year?  *sighs*

Apparently, the umpire did call/talk to Leyland and told him that he blew the strike call.  Leyland must have still been in a bad mood, as he was thrown out of today's game in the 4th inning.

Yahoo published an article regarding the umpire's apology for blowing the call the other day.  http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Regrets-Umpire-has-a-few-after-costly-blown-cal?urn=mlb,251765

^ I will say that plate umps get balls/strike calls pretty well on spot. Usually the question is whether the ump has a high or low strike zone...not so much a wide zone. They don't allow much painting the black as say in College baseball.
Full count bases loaded 2 outs......Damon should have been protecting, foul off anything that is close. I have seen umps ring up batters who did not attempt to protect or are looking for a free pass.....Althought never with bases loaded and a tight score.

Bad call.......but you don't argue balls and strikes.

Watched Eight Men out today. Great movie. Sad how Weaver and Shoeless Joe got dragged into it. What a waste of talent.

I do agree, but the problem was that that pitch wasn't even close and should not have been called a strike.  Damon fouled off 2 or 3 pitches prior to that, so he was protecting the plate.  He is a 15-year veteran with a pretty good eye for the strike zone.  The Braves' pitchers had just walked 4 Tigers in a row, and it wasn't a case of the umpire being picky none of the pitches that were called balls were close to being strikes.  Alot of times I think it depends on who the hitter or pitcher is.  Umps are more willing to call balls on close pitches for veteran batters (especially those wearing pinstripes, or red socks) than they are for rookies/young hitters, but if the pitcher is an all-star pitcher or is having a good day and showing that they have a reputation for being right around the plate they are more likely to get the call than a young pitcher or lets say Dontrelle "Wild Thing" Willis.

^ Yea I probably had 2 points in my post.....I 100% agree that was a bad call, and I would say that same pitch 100 times over will be called a ball 99 times by MLB umps.
I would have probably accepted had he said..." look I saw the ball clip the corner of the plate..."

Remember its where the ball crosses the plate, not where the catcher receives it.

Off topic....Bruce Dickenson made a great tribute speech talking about RJD at last weeks Maiden concert. They dedicated "Blood Brothers" to Ronnie James Dio.

It was pretty cool.

Cool!!!  I've not seen Iron Maiden live other than on video, but I can imagine that that was a killer show.
