He's rated Dream Theater as low but practically all other metal bands he's given higher. I think he just doesn't like Dream Theater.

They are terrible reviews! He reviewed Haken's new one terribly that did not deserve such a bashing, and he keeps mentioning reviewers opinions comparing them to inferior than his own. He uses words like Egads, and Jesus, just to vent his distaste. He hates new prog metal and gives old metal such as DTs debut 3 stars and hails it as a great listen. Then has the gall to state 'If you're prejudiced against Dream Theater prior to listening though, might want to suck it up and get over it first.' Then shows his own bias with his 1 and 2 star ratings of other DT albums! Also he loved IQs The Wake but wroite this in review "Mercy, are we talking about the album f**king the listener? If so, I believe I have the vapors." Not appropriate is it? I will try to ignore him but could not resist sending him a PM about that review of new DT

Some interesting reading, from his reviews I'd say 1791 Overture knows his stuff. And couldn't agree more with conclusion as well as the wording of his review for DT's "Dramatic Turn of Events". |

Of course, DTOE has divided Progsters a lot, but isn't this a bit offensive ? Well, more than just bit, he basically blames everyone who gave something like (I suppose) 4-5 stars

Oh yes he has to improve on his "negative review" writing. Who doesn't? We could sure make an interesting list of insulting language from the 1 and 2 star reviews on PA. Collabs and non-collabs alike. But I can't see anything inappropriate about his ratings. They appear genuine and consistent to me. |

 Just from scrolling down his reviews/ratings page, it didn't look to me like he's abusing the system, as there seems to be a pretty fair distribution; I didn't look at specific artists, but it may be that he just doesn't like them, and rates their albums accordingly. |

You and I both know, Geoff, that there are some people who take a great deal of pleasure in loudly proclaiming their dislike of certain albums/artists/genres, and rate and review accordingly. That can be annoying, but I wouldn't call it abuse of the system. I don't really blame anyone for taking that attitude although I would prefer a more positive attitude toward the music on this forum. I am also a very opinionated and critical person, but that doesn't come out as much in the prog forums because I happen to like almost all the music on this site. The general discussion forums, on the other hand, are another matter entirely... |

I think some people actually take a historical view and like to listen to all albums, whether they personally like them or not is irrelevant. Music is not simply entertainment to them, they are trying to be exposed to all the art/music they can be. They are still allowed their opinion and right to rate stuff. I don't know if that's what this guy's story is, but it's possible. |
