Topic: Best Song from Sgt. Pepper Posted: June 01 2014 at 15:52 |
in honor of the 47th birthday of this motha f**kin' masterpiece, i put up a discussion forum which you can get to here:
along with this poll on what is the best song from that album among other stuff. i am also ready for this topic to be headed over to the prog-related lounge as that is where The Beatles are best located of course. what do you think is the best, hmmm?

A Day in the Life. What a way to end an album. If I'd been around and "of age" when it came out, imagine how blown my mind could have been. As it was, I first heard it towards the end of side one of the "Blue" comp album. Not quite the same.

Sgt.Pepper is actually quite low on my favorite Beatles album. Though a certain closing song makes this album enough to listen to. I would call this a classic album, but i don't think of it as a masterpiece personally - simply because i'm not a huge fan of many of the songs here.
Favorite Song: A Day In The Life.

As good as A Day in the Life is, I think She's Leaving Home would be my favourite, so I voted that. I'm quite partial to Getting Better too.

"Fixing A Hole" vs. "She's Leaving Home" vs. "A Day in the Life". The last one is overplayed to death on a local classic rock radio station, so that make choosing a little easier. I'm going with ... .
Ah! ... . Screw this, I'm not voting. ... Too hard!

Difficult choice really, but Paul's 'Fixing A Hole' just stays with me. Every time someone mentions Pepper's, the first song that enters my thoughts is this track.

"A Day in the Life" is the obvious choice but over the years I've come to appreciate "She'd Leaving Home" more and more, lyrically as well as musically.

An exorbitantly overvalued cultural artifact but I voted for Fixing a Hole nevertheless. There are better Beatles albums and better Beatles songs.

Voted for the strangest song I found in my dad's record colletion Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! (which obviously didn't contain much strangeness) but could have gone for A Day in the Live like everybody else.

Lucy in the Sky tied with a Day In The Life. Both are proto prog that's of the same caliber as Strawberry Fields. (Sorry!)
