Topic: PA Awards Posted: February 09 2010 at 19:50 |
Just a little idea... Considering there are so many polls going around titled "Best <insert something here> of <insert current year here>", or "Greatest prog band/album/song/musician/mascott of all time", why not lump all this into one awards system? Because I just LOVE awards ceremonies Here's how it could work: A set of sticky topics are arranged on the 1st of December every year, for the nominations. The nominations are then counted up for each category, and the 25 with the most votes gets to be in the respective poll. When December 15th hits, the polls are set up and the votes are counted through until some time at the beginning of January next year (I'm vague because people do plan to go away over NY). Then hey presto, the winners of each category are revealed, and are announced perhaps in the Prog Lounge or somewhere IMPORTANT. If we make a big event out of this, then it should be amazing and a nice little addition to the site. Ye know, give it more character. I'll be happy to step on board and help and run it any amount necessary. Maybe we could even make little web TROPHIES to give the winners Potential example categories: Best album of 20XX Best live show of 20XX Best debut of 20XX Best <insert subgenre> album of 20XX Best newcomer 20XX Best new artist 20XX Best old-school artist 20XX Best artist of ALL TIME 20XX (this would work because hopefully it will change every year to make things interesting) Best PA Musician of 20XX The list is endless, and we could do SO MUCH with this. I just need some participation

ALSO it will keep people coming to PA (especially newer members) as they'll be on the edge of their seats to see the winners

Whether or not this idea gets off the ground, I'll take my award for best looking member now, thanks.

Joking aside, we already have the collabs album of the year- I think this would be a very fun endeavor if the logistics could be managed.

Most melodramatic poster.
Most baffling goodbye thread.
The list goes on.

As for the original idea, wouldn't it be best to wait until sometime early in January to finalize nominations, so that all the good albums that come out near the end of December can get counted in the proper year?

Good idea really. Now we only need to find a minimum of half a dozen people who can both get music for asessment, have the capacity to go through the 300-800 albums needed and form an opinion on each and every one of them throughout the year.

Now, seriously speaking, other sites have something like that, so it could be a good idea - especially for those who get a kick out of awarding 'best of' recognitions .

Good call actually. Maybe we can think through the proper dates when it's more of an organised event? So fcar it's merely a genesis (yes Symphs, i did just use your favourite band's name in vein ) To Olav: I am aware of the workload (well it goes for every major job on this site really), and I'll be happy to put my share in. I think probably 8-9 Collabs working on it should do the trick. We just need some volunteers

I agree. I also love awards, even though I know they don't mean anything.
And we can also go ahead with the forum awards:
Award for participation in multiple threads - IVnord Award for humility and staying in the shadows - Blowin Free Award for most threads created on a single subject - MrProgfreak (atheist threads)

Can I have an award for the worst contributor? I'll accept it like Halle Berry accepted her award for catwomen.
...or worse avatar.Something like that.
