Topic: A New Big Prog Album Poll 2009 Posted: July 16 2009 at 10:50 |
Given that the previous ultimate polls are still pending (still curious about the results when time allows), I'm willing to do the math and do a new 2009 prog album poll.
That is, list your top 100 albums of prog (defined by already being on this site. If it's here, it's fair game)
The scoring is simple, each #1 gets 100 points, each #2 gets 99 on down to #100 gets 1 point.
I'll leaving voting up for a month - so Friday August 21st (before I go to ProgNation) will be the day I close. I will start posting results the week after.
If you post a list you can edit it as much as you want up until the deadline, I won't collect data until then.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

This may take just a wee bit of time for me to make up. A bit of an ambitious project you're taking on here.

It's 19.06 in Wales. I have to do a bit of work, take my son to bed, have some supper, and spend some time with 'er indoors, and attempt to get to bed after watching Question Time (UK political debating show). I would be interested to see if anybody seriously has the time for this

There's a whole month to figure out your list, and it's for fun. If you don't that's cool. I'm just compiling a list of 100 albums first, seeing what I have. Ordering will be later.
I have a spreadsheet already started, so I'm hoping it won't be too bad.

A simple question, is this only for studio albums, or could I also add live albums to my top 100?

Any album that's on PA is eligible. I'd almost assume that a few live albums will make the cut (Rush and Gentle Giant, Genesis come to mind but who knows). I would avoid EP's or singles, but double albums are fine.

I suppose we shouldn't list prog related or proto? I'd like to try not to, it would be more interesting.

I'd like to do that as well but when I though what the most unbiased way to cut things off would be, saying simply that if it's here, it's fair game, seemed the best.
It's early enough we could change it but I'm inclined to keep the rules simple.

I echo Epignosis here. (Hey man, just because you recently got added don't pick your own record! )
It'll be interesting to see if Selling England comes in first, because I don't think it will with the sort of people who go through the trouble of a big list like this. Meaning: , which in Prog translates roughly to .

Why must my spell-checker continually underline the word "prog"?

My top 25 so far is pretty much usual suspects except a few faves like Peter Gabriel's Melt and Billy Cobham's Spectrum. But even those aren't that out of the ordinary.

Can always depend on cacho for some love for Tommy Bolin...you may actually have Spectrum higher than I do. You also have Brand X - you ever notice how much Goodsall leans on Tommy's style from Spectrum on that album?
And still, each list gives new bands to add to the spreadsheet. Hello Zappa.
