I really enjoy Yes. I only have The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge right now. I love all these albums. The atmosphere, lyrics and musicianship on all of these is superb. And though my Papa would roll his eyes, I love their cover of America. I love how they took a 3 minute pop song ( the original is great, love Simon and Garfunkel) and made it a ten minute awesome jam.
Now with my love for those three albums, should I venture into Tales from Topographic Oceans? I've heard mixed things.

there are two classic Yes albums that can be difficult; Tales and Relayer, many fans prefer one or the other, some like both

I LOVE both... After those, I'd reccomend DRAMA and GOING FOR THE ONE, but there isn't a YES album I don't love... |

I think Tales is a simply wonderful album, and if anything to these ears it seems to have improved over the years.
It's pretty much as good as anything by Yes (I only prefer Going For The One) and an absolute must-have.

Go to the post recommended by Snow Dog. But I just want to say, though I've known this album all my conscious life, I'm extremely happy and perhaps sort of envious for anyone who is about to hear it for the first time! You are lucky, because it is wonderful.

Why must my spell-checker continually underline the word "prog"? |

A superb couple of posts - I can barely remember the first time I listened to this, and the sense of excitement at buying the gatefold vinyl from my local record shop some 30 years ago. You are so going to love it. My own review http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=204366 gives my own opinion, which I have not changed - however, Revealing Science & Ritual are two of the most enduring and incredible pieces of music ever written and performed. Enjoy |

You should venture into because everyone should have their own opinion on this album. |

I like to sing the lyrics really loud in the bathroom.
THEY MOVE FAST THEY TELL ME BUT I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I CAN FEEL IT I sang half of Ritual in the loo tonight. |

We could meet some environmentalists. "We must do something to protect the trees!" Me: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGH LET EM RAPE THE FOREST...*hick*.....they might stand and leave em, you know what I'm sayin..." Pat: "Clearly...let's go home." Me: "That's to be home, ya git..." |

Anyway, that album is very controversial. I personally like it, but not everybody does. I'd say go for it. It doesn't hurt to try it.
