 Topic: Favorite James Bond Actor

So me and a friend are having a debate over who the best Bond actor to grace the big screen is, and I'll leave it up to the population of PA to help settle. I won't let you know who we both have picked as our favorites, but it should be interesting to see yours. Purely coincidence that there is another new Bond poll. And also, official films only, so sorry, but no David Niven!

Roger Moore. I loved all the Bond movies he was in, especially The Man With the Golden Gun.

I really enjoyed Pierce Brosnan, since I grew up on his films and his impeccable smooth attitude. But I think Connery is still the best.

Connery for me. The only one I've found disappointing though is Dalton, who was a bit too nice.

Connery and Brosnan very close to him, the only one I could never stand is Roger Moore, too much a pretty boy plus his movies are by far the worst and most ridiculous.

I like Geoge Lazenby`s line in the opening of OHMSS when his future wife takes off with his car : " This never happened to the other guy". Has to be Connery The only two guys who played Bond who were actually English were Craig and Moore.

Ok. Seriously....Connery followed closely by Brosnan. Then Moore, Craig, Lazenby and Dalton.

Roger Moore.
It's psychological: he's the first Bond that I saw, and I really liked my first Bond movie (For Your Eyes Only) and I liked his performance as James Bond: his dry humour especially, so for me he's the James Bond. Okay, I like Sean Connery as well.
I like Pierce Brosnan only in non - Bond - movies (for instance: The Thomas Crowne Affair).
George Lazenby: I like the movie, but he's not a real Bond for me. Diana Rigg was great though.
Timothy Dalton: I loved the Living Daylights as a movie, but not the one that followed. Timothy's a bit too un-Bondish, I guess.
Daniel Craig: after the review in the newspaper, which was pretty negative, I didn't dare to check him out.
Favourite Bond girl: Ursula Andress (Dr. No).

I think Craig is great, best since Connery though he doesn't appear to be Scottish which Bond is suppose to be.. great choice though, and Casino Royale was terrific

Just got Dalton on the board, not necessarily because I think he's the best, but because I think he had real potential that wasn't yet realized. He was especially good in The Living Daylights.

Connery did all the best films, he is great, but too Scottish to be a real a James Bond ... much like his 'Irish' Jim Malone (Untouchables), 'Spanish' Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Highlander), 'Greek' Agamemnon (Time Bandits), 'English' King Arthur (Robinhood)...
Lazenby was good, shame he only did the one.
Never liked Dalton or Brosnan in the role and Moore will always be The Saint pretending to be James Bond.

Can't say I rate Daniel Craig as Bond; I think he was badly miscast (although I liked "Casino Royale" a lot, and thought "Quantum Of Solace" had its moments).
Anyone who has read the books (and I've read them all) will know what a complex character the literary Bond was: outwardly charming, eloquent and even slightly effete, but inwardly quite vicious, self-loathing, insecure and rather paranoid, with a deep disgust for what he does for a living. Also, he wasn't particularly successful with women, being quite adept at seducing them, but hopeless in forming the lasting, stable relationships he needs.
Indeed, in "Casino Royale" his fiancée commits suicide; in "Moonraker" the policewoman he falls in love with tells him she's engaged already and simply isn't interested; in "From Russia With Love", the girl who moved in with him gets bored with their relationship and returns to America; in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" his wife is murdered within hours of their wedding; in "You Only Live Twice" he stays with his Japanese bride only until his amnesia wears off, whereupon he leaves to rediscover his earlier life; and the final novel in the series "The Man With The Golden Gun" ends up with Bond in a relationship with his secretary, already bored and knowing it's not going to work, although she's madly in love with him.
Craig captures the vicious, insecure side of the character well, but he's simply not charming or posh enough, coming across as a slightly unhinged thug. Sean Connery and Roger Moore were both excellent, but too cocksure, and both seemed to give the impression that being a secret agent and killing people is a bit of a lark, an opinion certainly not shared by the literary character. Pierce Brosnan is hard to judge, as none of his scripts were particularly good, but overall he struck me as rather anodyne.
Timothy Dalton came close to capturing the literary character, but to me George Lazenby was far and away the best Bond. It helped that he had the best film script of all (and the only one that is virtually identical to the novel), but his performance is perfectly judged throughout, especially in the love scenes with Diana Rigg, perfectly balancing Bond's outward elegance with his self-doubt and need to be loved (possibly reflecting Lazenby's own insecurity, as he was not an actor by profession).
As an interesting footnote, Ian Fleming always wanted the character to be played by Noël Coward.

Didn't Fleming want David Niven for the role?
Connery's the best.
Lazenby's good.
I can understand why some hate Moore, but I think he was great.
Dalton did some fine work as well. Pretty close to the character in Fleming's books.
Brosnan: good actor, bad movies
Craig - not good. He shouldn't have the licence to kill! People say Casino Royale is very close to the novels, but I disagree.
