Because a friend asked me to explain what prog rock was, so I referred him to the definition on this site ( http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive-rock.asp). And then I noticed in that story, a short excerpt:

The early 1980s saw something of a revival of the genre, led by artists such as Marillion, Saga, and Kate Bush.

So if she is included in this site's own definition of what prog is, then why is she not in the archives...

She should definately be in, just listen to the wealth of ideas in "The Dreaming"

BTW isnt Art Rock( according to the Archives) a sub genre of Prog?

It is a pleasant surprise to see this thread. Here is one artist that should be included in the Archives. I think most of her albums have some prog element to them and I agree if she is included the Art catagory would fit the bill. Most prog albums IMO are "The Dreaming" "Never Forever" and "Hounds of Love".

This debate is a good example of the problem with the term 'prog'. The only reason I use it myself at all (when speaking about my music taste) is the fact that most of my favourite artists belong to the genre without a question. But if 'art rock' would not be a name of a sub-genre (quite hazy 'sub-genre', I bet), I'd prefer to talk about art rock instead of prog, implying by it: prog AND other rock(& pop) that is... well, arty and intelligent and original. Something that needs a certain concentration and gives 'artistic enjoyment' - excluding genres like 'prog metal' which serve quite different reasons and attitude for listening.  Of course THAT line is as problematic as any other (and sorry for all the prog metal fans... ), but anyway, I see a huge difference between Kate Bush and Madonna!!!! Anyone who has heard more than Wuthering Heights and Running Up That Hill sees it. If Kate Bush ain't 'art rock' the way I spoke of it, who is?

So, I would vote YES  to Kate's inclusion.  (Besides, she IS prog in many of her works.)
PS. If there are many people that would be angry about Kate Bush's inclusion (I would understand their feelings), I add that it's not important to me to have any borderline cases - it may be sometimes wiser to be 'narrow' not to cause conflicts.

PS II: I just found out the "storm in a water-glass" issue which I missed completely, not being here on weekends. But I don't exactly know would have I taken 'sides' on it anyway. Hopefully it all has sorted out.

I downloaded a video of Kate performing Comfortably Numb with Gilmour. Awful quality but the performance seems pretty good

If ELP are here....then shouldn't their wives be added. That is as sensible a statement as the one up above.
