We received a request to evaluate the band Mekhlin for possible inclusion on PA.  They are a band from Denmark with a female lead singer.  The songs on MySpace are actually quite good.  If they are progressive, I am not sure which category they might fall under.  I'm thinking possibly one of the three categories that were spun off from Art Rock.  I think that Micky might enjoy it so he should probably give a listen for Crossover and then forward to the appropriate team if not crossover.  Of course, he might have to slip Pat Benatar in at the same time as a compromise on the party ticket.

See below:

My band, Mekhlin, and I just finished our first EP, Manuscript. Therefore we would like to ask you if it is possible to have our band added to nyour archive, or you or some other people would do a review of our music? We have been inspired by many bands from your site, so we found it suitable to write this request to you :o)
We define ourselves as a progressive rock band consisting of four people. Our genre would be something between progressive, alternative, indie, and post rock with a touch of other genres as for example blues. We have put much effort into making our music sound easy to the ear without the "virtousity" of many prog bands. Still underneath the easy surface we have tried to retain many of the progressive elements, such as lots of changing time signatures, tone material etc. This way we think we have made almost pop songs but with the quality that you can go a lot deeper into them and interpret and analyze them on many levels.
We are characterized by raw and spacious guitar sounds, a lot of changing time signatures, deep bluesy bass and sometimes absurd but heartfelt lyrics sung from the imploring voice of our singer. We are inspired by bands like Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Portishead, Fiona Apple, P.J. Harvey, Yes, Muse, Sugar Cubes, Sigur Rós og Interpol but we sound like Mekhlin.
You can listen to all the music for free on MySpace, Facebook, Purevolume etc, which you'll find links for on our (not yet finished) website www.mekhlin.com.
If you'd prefer we'd be happy to send you a physical CD as well. Just give us the adress.
We hope very much that you'll like our music and will add us and/or write a nice review on us. :o)
Kind regards
Mekhlin

The links are on their home page, but since I was there, here is their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/mekhlin

As always, thank you for your time and your consideration of this band.

Scott

Scott....  approved... and if you can .. put me in touch with the band.  I'd like to hear the EP.

Leaving Tuesday for a couple of weeks so when you have the bio and information ready... send it to Dean or Chris and they'll add the band for you.  Great suggestion.

Hey Micky and Scott

I'm Rasmus, the guitarist from Mekhlin, who wrote the email to Atkingani. In his reply to me he attached the link to this thread so we could follow your discussion. We're very glad that you liked our music.  Progarchives' opinion is very important to me as this is the place I go myself to find great music. :o)
You are very welcome to send an email to "mekhlin ( at) gmail.com" or write here, for any information you need to create our profile.

Here are the direct links to the songs from Manuscript:

We'd be happy to send you the physical CD as well so you'll have the higher quality .wav files. Just give me your adress. :-)

Is it possible that anyone of you here on Progarchives would write a review on Manuscript so we could use it on our website?

Thanks a lot

-Rasmus and Mekhlin

Thank you very much Micky. I really appreciate it! Also the clappies :-)
I got your PM and will send you the CD tomorrow morning.
Are there other reviewers as well I should send the CD to?

Thanks again

hahahha... did someone say free album?.. make sure you PM box is clear hahahhha.  I know Scott would love one.. but he is probably at a Tiger's ballgame right now.  My two team members who screened and approved you would surely love a copy. They really enjoyed your music as well.. unfortunately... they don't trust me with their addresses..  afraid they must be that I'd show up unannounced one day. .or just be a raving psychotic.

As reviewers are interested.. they'll contact you I'm sure.

Haha, yes I did. Smile

I could send a CD to anyone writing a review? I can upload the .wav files and post direct links here, so the songs can be listened to in full quality for review. Whenever someone writes a review we'd be happy to send a free cd as "reward". Of course we'd like some of the most renowned reviewers on here to write as it would give (possible?) positive reviews more punch. Smile
I must say that I have no idea how many reviewers will write but I think the limit of CD to be sent overseas will be 10 or so :-)

Again, thank you very much :-)

PS. Do I dare to write my return adress on that letter? If the people who know you don't trust you with such, I'm not sure I do either Big%20smile

hahhahaha...  Wink  Bah.. I'm harmless.

seriously though... if you can ...save one of those 10 for Scott.. . sometimes our collabs disappear for days at at time (you know.. real life intrudes on PA's time hahhaa).  I know he would want one as well.

I will save one for him :-) It's not a big issue whether it will be 10 or 11 CD's anyway. :-)

Oh, boy, I love happy-endings! Cool

Anyway, keeping the links for the songs in a public forum may empty your wallet, Rasmus... if someone is really/truly interested he/she may ask you via PM, ok? Smile

Good to see that the crossover team enjoyed Mekhlin.  Not too many bands have come along my way lately that have fit the bill for PA so it is nice to see one that finally did.

Good guess on the baseball game.  The Tigers were in Baltimore this weekend, and I almost ended up on your doorstep (or Jody's), but decided on Chicago instead.  It was mostly a non-prog weekend, with a few small exceptions.  Walking the streets of Chicago I did pass a guy wearing an Umphrey's McGee t-shirt.  They were doing a gig Saturday night which I seriously considered going to, but ended up passing on.  While on Navy Pier I did see a guy wearing a Rush Caress of Steel t-shirt, and I saw a girl wearing a Queen/Freddy Mercury t-shirt.  (not to mention me wearing my Queen and Rush t-shirts).  And of course, a weekend vacation would not be complete without a stop at the music store, which netted me what I expect to be some pretty awesome prog purchases.  I picked up VDGG's Aerosol Grey Machine, Judas Priest's Nostradamus, Mars Volta's Scab Dates, Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Beethoven's Last Night (couldn't resist for $2.99); Oblivion Sun (for $3.99); a couple of Coheed and Cambria albums;Galahad's Empires Never Last; and Miriodor's Parade + Live at Nearfest.  I'm not sure yet if this will be a major bust or prog heaven since I am not a big VDGG or TMV fan.

Hehe Smile
What do you mean empty my wallet? Pirates? If so, I think it would be the best way ever to get our music spread? Smile
Anyway they'll have to do with the mp3's then :-) Just send me PM if anyone wants the .wav files for review.

ooohhhh...  you did get yourself a nice haul there... ...

I do need to get that Judas Priest album......

let me know what you think that Oblivion Sun album...

I saw after I posted that they were here in Baltimore..    if ever you do end up in my neck of the woods.. let me know...  have plenty of space to take in the PA's traveler to the beautiful  DC area.
