I have an old Bang & Olufsen tuner/amplifier, my question is about correct loudspeaker connection.

As you can see in the picture  (sorry abou the quality, took it with my cellphone) there are some oldfashioned output terminals (if that is what they are called), and as you can see there are two "holes" in both the output terminal for the right channel, and the left channel there is a big one and a small one, and I wonder which of the "holes" is the positive one (usually on newer amps the red one) and which is the negative one (usually black on newer amps)

I hope I made myself clear, and that there is someone out there with this specific kind of information.

My own poor opinion is get a new amplifier and speakers to match that one. B & O is way over-rated, but you should have no problems fiding a sucker to buy this stuff. Put an add in a special HI-FI mag, there are always people that do collection of those old amps.

With the money from the sale you should have enough to buy a real amp (not something that looks like a piece of art) .

Just an opinion, though.

BTW, I cannot see your picture.

It's not the amplifier I use... (you are right B&O are very overrated, you buy with you eyes not your ears, I used one similar (beomaster 3000) in the past a bit bigger, but didn't sound very great) This one I got from someone who wanted to get rid of it, and i've just suceeded in selling it (not for very much though) and I am confused about the speaker connection, i just want to give the buyer the correct instruction.

Loudspeaker (2-pin):

Round Pin - Positive (Positive + usually donated by a red sleeve on your cable)
Flat Pin - Negative (Neg - usually donated by a Blk sleeve on your cable)

I think amps like Jolida or Conrad jonhson are the real thing, compare to the poor device you construct in your garage...

Salut Olivier,

Actually , although amps like yours are the best kind, those bulbs have relatively short life span (on average two years) before deteriorating. Not only are those bulbs expensive to replace but good quality replacement are scarce. Most audiophiles do not consider those China-made bulbs any good . You might have to look to military equipment or Russian-made bulbs but furnishing channels are to me complicated. So I gave up on that idea of ever owning such an amp.

Hi sean,
This is russian tubes!
No pb wuth lifetime, really this is a legend:

I have it from 2 years now, and listen it an average of 4 hours a day!! and loud!!!
There's not the smallest sound deterioration, but when it will happen (loss of accurancy in the highs), i will replace the power tubes (the four big ones on the pic)and voilà! it's like new!and you're quiet for several years of musical heaven!
They cost only 30€ per tube, so 120 € each 3/4 years of intensive use.

This amp is real great, it's quite as good as Conrad Jonhson, but 2 or 3 times less expensive!
Moreover, i will replace the connectic by WBT topline connects, and it's gonna be better!
