Tangerine Dream is probably the most valid answer, but let's not forget the Legendary Pink Dots (or was that the most incomprehensible discography?).

I think so, but so many compilations and all have been released posthumously, I want to rule them out. It seems weird.

How about Steven Wilson if you count all his projects: Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Bass Communion, IEM, Blackfield, am I missing any?

If you consider all projects then I'd say take another look at Wakeman.  110 studio albums, 21 DVDs, 
12 compilation albums, plus what he did with Yes and the Strawbs.
