Topic: Prog Bands You've Ignored Posted: October 06 2007 at 13:13 |
So, there's some bands that may have or may not have been around a while. They're in a genre you like, and you would probably like them if you gave 'em a listen.
But, for some reason, you just haven't checked them out. At all.
What are some of the bands you have done this with? Hopefully, we can get people interested in the bands they may have ignored!
I've completely ignored the Flower Kings, and The Moody Blues and Strawbs.

Henry Cow.
I've only just started catching up (with LEG END) and boy is it worth it!
Italian Prog.
Progarchives has made it clear to me there's a lot to enjoy, so I bought some CDs and look forward to enjoying them.
Van der Graaf Generator.
I've never really explored them, I always thought they were too wordy, most probably I was wrong...

Try Pawn Hearts. It never came off to me as self-indulgent, even if the vocals were very prominent.

Generally if I hear of a band I don't know I try and check them out somehow. In the old days that was by Sampler LPs, now it's magazine cover discs, MySpace and YouTube. So I have heard most of the bands I have heard of and bought something of more or less everything that appealed. The only exception I can think of at the moment is Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, but that's only because I didn't know they even existed until a few months ago . And they've just gone on my Amazon wishlist...
(damn this infernal website, it's costing me a fortune)

If you want any Banco stuff, it's probably cheaper for me to get it here and mail it to you... how much would it cost from Amazon?

Thanks for the offer Raff, but I can get Io Sono Nato Libero for about £8.00 inc p&p (€11?) which I think is incredibly cheap.
/edit and Darwin for about the same price

ermm...lots of them, I think. RUSH is the most ignored, I heard only Hemispheres and Moving Pictures (the most celebrated ones), and they bored me to death. Gave them up immediately after that and never returned.
then...
Ayreon
Meshuggah
Deadsoul Tribe/Devin Tounsend
Symphony X (just listened few times to "Paradise Lost" recently...that's not what I'd adore)
Earth & Fire (gonna work it out!)
High Tide
Strawbs (soon to be explored)
Velvet Underground
Egg
Brand X
Fairport Convention
Family
Happy Family
Kraftwerk
Henry Cow
Miriodor
Nebelnest
Soft Machine
Ozric Tentacles
Weather Report
Happy the Man
Psychotic Waltz
Sylvan (listened to their latest only and liked it!)
Magenta (heard only SEVEN, which is very good)
Mostly Autumn (heard 2001's album, unimpressed)
Parallel of 90 Degrees
Salem Hill
SBB
Antonious Rex/Jacula
Greenslade
This is what I've already gotten, but only gonna explore!!!
