Topic: Yes vs Genesis vPink Floyd? Posted: February 26 2005 at 07:55 |
In terms of the complete listening experience ie Technique, sound quality, music structure, emotions, musicianship, quantity of back catalogue, and just pure listening pleasure, which do you favour?

It is very close Genesis/Yes - Both have been my favourite - But Genesis has been my number one more often = Floyd are not in the same class - Why ? Because the keyboard player is a muppet - who should have contributed more, and Gilmour played the same solo on every song......

I really love Pink Floyd, but Yes come out on top in this poll. Pre
Hackett leaving Genesis might give these both a run for their money,
but the "Collin's Years" have tainted my opinion of them too much.

I think Genesis's top period out does either band, but Pink Floyd maintained its integrity and consistancy throughout their entire career , so my vote goes for Pink Floyd

It's not often I listen to Yes. I like them, but I need to be in the right mood. Totally mashed helps Genesis on the other hand I will listen to every week. Alongside Rush they are joint top band for me. I have never got bored of them. I find their music emotional and very melodic.
I prefer Floyd to Yes too.
Genesis gets my vote!!

Floyd strike out on technique and musicianship, but they get my vote for being the most consistent in realeasing high-quality material.

Yes, but only just.
What swung it for me was that they are the only one of the three still recording and performing live. We should all be grateful for that!

Hi Everybody...
It's very difficult to choose between my 3 favourites Prog Rock bands.
The 3 are wonderful but different of each others. I love them all.
My vote depends of my taste of today, and today I vote in Yes. Last month I thought about it and voted in Pink Floyd. Other day In Genesis.
But always one of this 3.
Best Greetings...

Genesis, clearly ahead of Pink Floyd, even more clearly ahead of Yes.
I quite like listening to Yes, I own nine of their records including
the most important ones like Relayer, Fragile, Close to the Edge and
TFTO, but they simply are not in the same league for me as the Floyd of
Meddle-The Wall or the Genesis of Trespass-Wind and wuthering.

When I'm in the mood for some bombastic stuff I'd rather lsiten to ELP
than Yes, so Yes is out for me. My vote goes for Genesis, because of
their amazing Lyrics, musical arangement, and Gabriel's perfect,
soulful voice. Genesis surpasses Floyd for me because they lack the
sheer talent all the Genesis members have (not saying they aren't
tallented musicians), and Genesis has some kind of magic.
