Classic Rock magazine has published another Prog special, complete with a Yes DVD. The DVD contains unreleased material, but seems to be in the form of interviews rather than music.

Looks like a nice publication, if a bit on the expensive side at £8.

Took me ages to spot the price too, it's in very small print on the back cover, about half way down! Had to put the reading glasses on the see it.

The magazine is in the shops now, in the UK at least. It is one of the "specials" though, not the regular magazine.

But when I get my mitts on it, it looks like it could be a good read! (it's been nabbed by another houshold member )

Will let you know what I think once I've had a read!

This post reminded me of something I forgot to mention a while back (or maybe I did mention it, I really can't rememberEmbarrassed).  Guitar One recently did a prog issue featuring Dream Theater, Rush, Marillion, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, and Yes.  It's about time someone did that...

I've got a hand-me-down copy, since no way would I pay that price. A disappointment. But I always am by Classic Rock publications: as usual uncontrolled enthusiasm affected by bad research, and regurgitation were evident here. And that piece on jazz rock - all that was need was to read the first few chapters of Stuart Nicholson's Jazz Rock A History and produce a suitable precised version. I hope newbies who are out to learn, don't read this magazine and  take this as genuine reflection of history.

^Bad research springs to mind when I saw the page about prog websites- Prog Archives cropped up and it jokingly bemoaned that there were no reviews of Druid's 'Fluid Druid' on the site! There are a couple, actually...what were Classic Rock talking about??Confused

I've had a flick through this and I'm not sure it's worth me paying out £7.99 for it- certainly nothing all that interesting in there, imho, and some of the articles are recycled from earlier issues. I'm glad Classic Rock 'keep the faith' with the genre but I've become disenchanted with their magazines of late. I dig out the old ones from around 4 or 5 years ago and imho, there's a marked difference in quality- too many sex/drug anecdotes and pandering to sleaze/hair bands, not to mention the pathetic over-reverence to Guns 'N' Roses.

I think that including punk and indie/grunge in the mag was a mistake as well- there are distinct double standards in operation; whilst praising those genres, sometimes the writers on those genres feel the need to take potshots at prog and heavy rock/metal that ultimately is the reason why most of the readers buy that mag anyway. If I wanted to read about punk or indie and the potshots that go with it towards other genres I would get Q or NME.Dead

I stopped buying Clasic rock ages ago for many reasons.

Same bands featured too regularly
Cover price went up.
Inclusion of many non "Classic Rock" bands.

ErmmDon't know if it was that one, but I recently leafed through a guitar mag "prog" special. The focus was mostly on prog metal. That's where the money/market is, these days.

Nice to see any "prog" get a look-in in the media, though, even if it's not my kind of "prog." Thumbs%20Up

I see now it was a different mag. i know Genesis (or even Hackett) weren't in it, nor was there a DVD.
