Looks good!

I've no sound on my work PC

I'll be checking this out, definately, I loved the books and the original BBC TV and Radio series.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Zaphod's missing something.

Marvin's looks suck.

Ford looks too normal.

The Vogon Captain speaks like my English pronunciation professor.

I smell crap.

Why couldn't they have left this series alone?

I was worried when i first heard they were doing a film but seeing that trailer i think its going to be okay. I mean at least they havn't changed the location like they have in the new 'War of The Worlds' film from victorian Surrey to modern day usa!

True, this is a point for them, or maybe for the departed-from-Earth-but-not-dead Douglas Adams. Yet "The Hitch-hikers..." is a novel of details, and if these details are missing from the film...

I shall attempt to reserve judgement until the film is released & I can make my mind up overall - but from the short clips.............

That's not Marvin - it's one of the aliens out of the Cadbury's Smash adverts, only built more cheaply...

THIS is Marvin;

I think there are more pros: The reviews have been really good and they've said it's faithful to the book. I've read some minor criticism towards some new stuff, but let's not forget that most of the changes had been made by Douglas himself prior to his death. The project has been in development hell for years, but I think it appears to have come to a good end: the actors look the part (and sound the part: Stephen Fry as the Guide is a good choice, as well as Alan Rickman - prog connection: in wich album is he said to have had a uncredited cameo?), the budget seems to be adequate, and at it has been made by english directors (what I think was essential).

For any fans interested in this, you can read about the difficult development of this movie in the book 'The Greatest Sci Fi Movies never made', about failed fantasy projects (of course, some of them came to being after the publishing of the book some years ago, like 'Spiderman', 'Fantastic Four' or this one).

Call me an old Luddite, but I still have fond memories of the original radio series and the irreplaceable Peter Jones as 'The Guide'.

But then, I do have a brain the size of a planet........

I still HAVE to see the film, as I loved the radio series - and the subsequent TV series just brought it to life!

I couldn't believe how dated it all looked when I saw the TV series again on DVD - the sets were worse than Blakes 7!! (Although Blakes 7 is as entertaining as it ever was, thanks to the great story lines).

Hopefully the film will bring it up to date a bit - at least I won't be disappointed when I see the new Marvin, as I now know what to expect... although the original is going to take some beating!

Besided, why would Zaphod want to hide his other head in the first place? He's not that kind of alien. That's cheap.

The movie's going to suck, I know it

At least it doesn't look as if it's about to fall off his shoulder, as it did on the TV series....

That wouldn't be so bad. The TV-series never made it here, so can't really tell... but it sounds in-keeping with the spirit of the book

Judging by the "bulge" on his left shoulder there is a whole neck and head thing going on there.
