As a professional art director and graphic desinger, sometimes a great design speaks almost as loudly as the music within. Hugh Syme has long been a hero of mine and the work he generates simply astounds me. If artwork is important to you guys, then what would be Syme's greatest cover?

Not so much about graphic design, but Moving Pictures is just a great cover. He brilliantly directed this particular photoshoot and puts a nice twist on the common term of "moving pictures". Absolutely stunning!

In terms of graphic design, Roll The Bones is hard to beat.

I voted for Power Windows but my personal favorite is the Grace Under Pressure cover and inside cover picture of the egg in a vice.
Ad hoc, ad loc and quid pro quo. So little time, so much to know.

not listed above and not prog, but check out syme's cover art for def leppard's "retro-active" (a woman sitting in front of a mirror) and then blur your sight a little - you're in for a treat greetings from another art guy!

Though my opinion is not professional, on purely aesthetic grounds I voted for "Moving Pictures". I love the colour scheme as well! Another great cover (though the album is partly a disappointment) is "Test for Echo".

<<didn`t he do grace under pressure by Rush ? if so thats my choice>>

I believe Syme has done every Rush cover since Caress Of Steel and/or 2112.

I toyed with putting P/G on there and probably should have. I couldn't include them all, which is why I added the Others category.

Moving Pictures is probably the best of the ones listed. I too love the color scheme, the black border with the thin red lettering mirroring the dark of the building with the red jumpsuits of the movers; I love it.

However my true favorite is Hold Your Fire. The simplicity of the three orbs and the red on red. Outstanding. Stark, yet detailed.

I think the beauty of Hugh Syme is he doesn't repeat himself. Sometimes I can spot his style without checking the credits (Octavarium was pretty clear); however, he'll produce something that is totally unlike him. When Vapor Trails was released I thought, "This can't be Syme," but it was. Roger Dean gets a lot of attention; however, I think Syme is just as good (if not better). Sometimes with Dean it's a case of 'if you've seen one, you've seen them all'. I thought his cover for the new Glass Hammer was pretty poor.

I've actually contacted him to see if he can do some work for us and he actually replied. Seems like a great guy.
