One can only imagine why Gentle Giant and Camel were the victims of such bad judgment when it came to CRUCIAL releases in the U.S. and the horrific album covers their U.S. labels chose...which was worse...

Janus Record's decision to change the ethereal image on the cover of Moonmadness from this...

to this?

OR

Columbia Record's decision to scap the incredible Roger Dean cover he created for Octopus...

to this?

The original (and very creepy) cover of THE STEVE HOWE ALBUM...hint...look in the water...

Yep, the alternate Moonmadness cover is an atrocity. I've never seen it before and wish I still hadn't.

I kinda like the Octopus one (maybe because I have that version). The Moonmadness one is laughable.

US Moonmadness cover sleeve is horrible. European version is much better.

Both original covers were excellent, great artwork but if i had to choose it would be Octopus as i think it is sacrilige to change such a fantastic cover!!...But then i could say the same about Moonmadnes....Phew!!

Gong's Gazeuse was released as Expresso in the states with a totally different cover, but same tracklisting. I think this is a case though where both album covers are equally as good as each other.

I've never seen that Moonmadness cover before, but it looks so silly that I almost like it.

My vinyl copy of Moonmadness has the offending cover, The Janus version of Mirage is pretty bad too. Thank goodness the music inside is still Camel..

I wonder if the Bands were even consulted about the switched artwork, or had any input to the design at all?

Moonmadness by far. In somway the cover has to represent the music and I know I wouldn´t want to listen to music represented by the US cover.

I like the US cover of Moonmadness.

The US Octopus is very dull. On the other hand I've never really liked the UK Octopus either.
