Yeah, I would agree but with the exception of their first LP UFO. They were just tripped out on that one. Grobschnitt was another German band that had a ball.  I saw them in the late seventies and they had all kinds of pyrotechnics, dancers and they would laugh and crack jokes during their sets which were mostly improvised. The most impressive band I ever saw live. Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull always seemed to be in high spirits any time I saw them in the seventies.

Amon Duul II seem like a nutty bunch to hang out with.
Love their crazy outfits and psychedelic Krautrock.
Great music but don't think they ever took themselves too seriously.

Hawkwind definitley! Good call.

ELP always seemed to be having a ball on stage, especially Emerson with his show stopping removal man from hell routine, with his Hammond.

Rush too! I think they have agreat sense of humour, despite whatheir critics may say. The intros to their concerts are usually very funny.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Hawkwind fit into both categories. In fact, I doubt if any other 70s band enjoyed themselves quite so much in terms getting totally trashed and having statuesque naked women gyrating on stage with them - and that's pretty much my definition of the word 'fun'.

 I remember you have mentioned that book before... it is only printed/availbable in German right?  I took 4 years of german.....20 years ago

As far as I know it is only available in German. A must for every fan of Amon Düül and Amon Düül 2.

I`ve heard of Fripp saying more than once that Crimson music wasn`t meant to be fun although if you listen to some of his in between song comments on the live Great Deciever box set he displays some of his dry British humour.
