well i've always kinda stayed away from this band until lately. and i'm not sure. but i'm rather entranced. i like them. as for if i think they are a progressive band or not.

well i mean, sometimes they definately are progressive--changing times everywhere, tempo changes everywhere, sometimes the lack of real "choruses" and the fact that they are definately a break from the "normal" sound...something fresh.

however, they are just as often annon-progressive, i mean they always sound different, but sometimes the time is always constant, the tempo constant, the lyrics rather punk-like...i dunno it's hard to determine.

personally i'm really nto sure, which i why i added the prog question to the poll. i won't vote until i decide. what do you guys on the site think?

I'm a reasonable man, get off my case

This at¿re three of the 12 threads about SoaD created in this Forum, each and every one repeats they are not even Prog related.

King Volta, I believe it's more than clear what people here believe, this same month a previous poll abot SOAD has been closed by the Adms.

Iván

BTW: The last one is the older, so please don't argue that opijnions are changing, people is getting more radical against their inclusion.

Yes, and they are borderline progressive. I'm not sure if they'll ever reach prog officially, but either way, they are creative and unique.

I don't really like what I know from this band so I'll ask: What's the most prog/cool album of theirs?

That's a nice poll with interesting options!

I'm not really sure what to think of them ... I think that they are progressive, but not really a prog band. I would not include them in the archives, but of course they're on my website - and there I would label them "Progressive Alternative Metal".

System of a Down - Progressive Alternative Metal : yes , that is a nice qualification.

By the true meaning of progressive, yes they are ! They have put something new into the metalgenre. B.Y.O.B is one of the best metal songs I heard in years. Imo they don't belong here though.

On my website I of course have the choice - maybe I would just label them "Alternative Metal" and rate some of their songs highly on the progressiveness scale. As a band, I think they are not "serious" enough about their music to qualify as a progressive band.

yeah i agree with everyone. i like the band admittedly after giving them much time but i don't think they c are enough or are progressive enough to be considered a progressive group. and by the way to all of the people acting like i was putting them in for inclusion: geuss what i wasn't!

i never thought they should be in the archives, i was wondering as whether people thought they were a band that was progresing musically. but hey.

i don't think they belong here, but i do think people should maybe give them a bit more time. i hated them for 3 years and now that i've really given them a fair chance not based on others opinions i actually find they aren't bad at all.

I'm a reasonable man, get off my case

System of a Down is a good band in their own right, although some songs have progressive elements, they themselves are not progressive, however they still do experiment with sound and odd things, some of the prog hints can be seen in "Cigaro" "Toxicity" and "Vicinity of Obscenity" Perhaps those songs hint at future things to come. I personally believe that if SOAD were to take a Mr. Bungle approach, they may be able to one day be considered true prog, until then, I feel they are experimental metal.
