Topic: A-M or N-Z bands? Posted: January 09 2006 at 23:25 |
A silly topic, but nonetheless I thought of it. So, If you could only
listen to prog bands from the first half of the alphabet (A-M) or
from the second (N-Z) which would it be? .
A-B prog highlights (for me):
Camel
Caravan
ELP
Genesis
Gentle Giant
Gong
Jethro Tull
Kansas
King Crimson
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Marillion
Mars Volta
N-Z prog highlights:
Mike Oldfield
Phish
Pink Floyd
PFM
Rush
Supertramp
Tool
UK
Van Der Graaf Generator
Yes
Frank Zappa
Though Rush is my favorite band, I would chose A-M, because
of King Crimson, Genesis, and Camel, mainly

For Pink Floyd, Yes, Porcupine Tree, Frank Zappa, VDGG, I think that the second half wins!

For Yes, Van Der Graaf Generator,Pink Floyd,Rush,Pain of Salvation and Psychotic Waltz N-Z wins, but it's a very narrow win. One Little Victory.

A - M would allow Magma, Guapo, King Crimson, Henry Cow, Can, Faust and Gong. I'd miss out on VDGG, but I'd still get Hammill, so A - M it is!

A-M, with hotspots G and H (where in fact a huge part of our collection is located - Gong, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Gryphon, Guru Guru, Greenslade, Peter Hammill, Steve Hackett, Hawkwind, Hatfield and the North, Henry Cow, to name just the major ones). Hammill and Hawkwind together make up almost 10% of our collection.

Ohhh, difficult. A-M have Brand X, King Crimson, Dream Theater, Genesis, Gentle Giant etc.
But N-Z have Zappa, Supertramp, Symphony X, Van Der Graaf Generator, Pink Floyd etc!!
I seriously can't decide!!

Very hard to choose, but I voted for A-M because of King Crimson, Genesis and (Fish-era) Marillion.

Things are getting curiouser and curiouser
Well, A-M, I suppose. Oldfield, Pink Floyd, PFM, UK, VdGG, Yes aren't strong enough to beat Camel, Caravan, ELP, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, King Crimson. 7-6
