They don't do much for me ... just wondered what other prog
fans thought. I have tried to get into them ... I just can't.
Are they "true" prog?
Why should I like them?

I love their related band 'Savatage' much better. Everyone should own 'The Wake Of Magellan'. Classic!

I own only the Christmas Attic album and I've rated it with three stars. People say it's not heir best.
I can say "art rock" is not a wrong sub-genre for this band because of the concept albums they release. Even if not enough to call it prog, this is an important and positive thing in that direction.
Also their references to classic music is another positive one. I'm thinking about the sample of A Mad Russian's Christmas and the album Beethoven's Last Night.
In my opinion if not "art rock", "prog related" at least.

They are not a band I would listen to often, but I definitely break them out around christmas because it's better to put on at christmas parties than something lame like kenny G's christmas album.
The good thing about TSO is their over-the-top live show. I saw their christmas show last weekend and it was just awesome. brilliant musicians, great vocalists, robotic lighting rigs, fake snow, lasers, pyrotechnics, everything awesome. not to mention a great-sounding audio mix.
I would not really call them a prog band, especially because they mostly do covers and arrangements. however, they do them well. They played a metal version of Orff's Carmina Burana that was absolutely perfect.

They're not prog, unless we start a "Christmas Metal" subgenre.
I personally find them fairly comical, even if they're amazing players.

I rate them with 3 stars. Their instrumentals are great but the vocal tracks are nothing out of the ordinary. It's a shame they don't just do instrumental stuff.
