Supertramp - perhaps because the only Styx I know is "Babe"

But there's a lot of great stuff in Supertramp's back catalogue, not least "Crime of the Century", which is hardly "lite".

Styx: I only know the track Mr. Roboto. I think it's safe to say that that is not very representative?

Mr. Roboto is not as good as the classic Supertramp-albums, like Crime Of The Century and Dinner In The United States

I think it's wrong to label these acts 'prog lite'; to me, Styx's 'Equinox' and 'The Grand Illusion' are as prog as most 70s albums on this site, and they are amongst my favourites. I count 'Fooling Yourself' and 'Suite Madame Blue' as some of the best prog songs I know of, with superb keyboard and guitar work, with brilliant harmonies. I like to see Styx as an American Uriah Heep in a way, yet also have the influences of Yes and ELP in there too.

Supertramp are another band who I'd hardly label 'lite', at least for their earlier albums. 'Crime Of The Century' is a great, cohesive prog album with superb songwriting- every track is superbly written.

However, Styx have the edge for me.

Supertramp. Besides, I don't think they were so "lite" in the 70s, IMO.

Supertramp is so much better, in my opinion, Styx is crap and a joke

Supertramp kicks Styx's ass. Come Sail Away, Mr. Roboto, Babe?

I LOVE Supertramp, Paris is my 3rd fave album ever...

Such wonderful songwriting!

Styx are decent in places, but nothing on Supertramp...

Why all the Styx bashing?  I don't understand why anyone would dislike them THAT much.  Am I the only one here who REALLY likes STYX?

Styx best album (Despite if it's prog or not) would be The Grand Illusion (STYX I and II were closer to Prog but I like them less).

Supertramp's best album (also the only one very close to Prog) is Crime of the Century.

Don't care what style, genre or mood they play, I would rate both with 4 solid stars because I enjoy both very much.

But I voted for STYX because I have a lot of troubles with Hodgson's voice) and STYX vocal arrangements & Chorus are excellen.

Well... though my personal taste will always prefer Supertramp, Styx has been a fine band, too.

( Well, they're still around but not the same anymore ).
