These are 25 bands/artists with music I have liked from the letters I and J combined. I had not done Jimi Hendrix under H, but as his band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, that fits under J. That said, I did include the Nina Hagen Band in H.

Now some might lament some popular choices not being in the poll such as IQ, Iron Maiden, Jade Warrior, Jadis, Jacula (which I have liked; just been so long) but I am happy for people to mention their favourites, I don't treat these polls as contests, and the comments tend to hold more value to me than just the votes.

Please vote for three from the poll with music you like if you can, otherwise if that is too hard, you can vote for more or for less. And feel free to vote despite limited familiarity. I encourage people to mention what they like that is in the poll and what they like that is not in the poll. Thanks.

here are the past polls: 25 "H" List Acts & 29 "G" List Acts & 26 "F" List Acts & 25 "E" List Acts & 26 "D" List Acts & 25 "C" List Acts & 25 "B" List Acts & 25 "A" List Acts

I'm down to these four. I feel like I like them both equally and very differently:

The Incredible String Band
Jean Michel Jarre
Jethro Tull
Joy Division

I've just started to warm up to a few selected Keith Jarrett albums btw. After having strongly disliked his approach to piano playing "all my life".

^ With Keith Jarrett I can understand why his playing would be off-putting, and I have not been big fan of his. I love this, though, for instance.

if it doesn't show in some regions, it's the title track from Death and the Flower (1975).

I feel like going the most with Joy Division, Jan Dukes de Grey and Interpol right now.

^ Nice choices. :) I commonly try to mention those that are not in PA or not Prog in these, but I forgot to this time.

Other than Joy Division and Interpol, the others not in here are Jarboe (at least not solo as she is in Swans and she is at least "related"), Irving Joseph who has one of my favourite albums of 1960 with Murder, Inc., and Isengrind, which has Psych Folk, ambient and drone qualities and post-rock qualities, and has been involved with Natural Snow Buildings. I count it as Prog umbrella music.

Isengrind "Dry" (Underflesh, 2014):

Tull, JMJ, Airplane for me from the list..

personally, I'd have liked to have seen: Illusion (Jane Relf), Iluvatar, IQ, Indukti, Ice Age, Ignea, Bryan Josh, Jadis, Janison Edge (albeit only 1 album), Journey (at a stretch)....

also surprised you didn't include It Bites, although they aren't my cuppa?
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I can't not like that either. Very beautiful. His solo stuff, like the much celebrated Koln Concert in particular - really does less than nothing for me. I'm bothered and annoyed. But a friend played me a Jarrett-led quartet piece that I really loved (I've forgotten what it was), because I said I found his playing insufferable. After that I stumbled over Survivors Suite at a second hand store (thinking it might be the one). I bought for next to nothing - and loved it. All of it, including Jarrett's playing. Although Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden and Paul Motian in the line up were the real selling points.

...I sometimes get hang ups like this, and it's a good thing my friend shook me out of my "Jarrett is a hack" attitude (although I know where it comes from and why) which only prevents me from discovering things I can potentially love.

Jean Michel Jarre. Not the biggest Tull or Hendrix fan although I respect them for sure.
Jarre had a great early run of albums through to Rendez-Vous but after that it gets a bit patchy like a lot of instrumental arrtists.

Let's compare notes... I have everything thru to Rendez-Vous (inc Concerts in China); Chronologie, Oxygene 2 & 3, Equinoxe Infinity. I like the first half of Revolutions enough, but not sold on Side 2 (a bit like Oldfield's Crises tbh) and have never bought it...  is there anything else you feel I'm really missing? Have you heard his last two?

When we've compared notes here, I'd be interested to do the same with Vangelis... Wink

Voted for Los Jaivas and Invisible, both iconical southamerican bands and among my all time favorites.

Other favs: The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Itoiz, Jethro Tull.

A lot of great choices here, indeed (It's a Beautiful Day, Jefferson Airplane, Island, Joy Division...)

IMO, he's done nothing of merit in the last 25 years, with maybe the exception of Oxygene: Live in Your Living Room.

Van certainly went out on a high note with Juno to Jupiter. He was much more consistent than Jarre.
