My favourite slide guitar solo is on "The spell" by Uriah Heep. Ken Hensley does the solo (not guitarist Mick Box). It has a choral backing, making it truly emotional.

Interesting point about Hensley- not only a great keyboard player, but exceptionally handy with a bottle neck slide. He managed quite a few of these 'moving' solos while with Heep. Definitely my all-time favourite rock band. Oh, the memories Heep hold for me....

Bob Brozman is the acknowledged master of the slide guitar - why haven't you heard of him? I've heard a helluva lot of slide solos but Brozman's cover of Highway 61 Blues is the tour de force - find it, hear it and be amazed!

- another Heep fan! I'd have to say 'The Spell' is the best I've ever heard too, though 'Tears In My Eyes' by Heep comes close too. Ken Hensley's solo work had a few too- I think a song called 'Brown Eyed Boy' from his album 'Free Spirit' had a particularly blistering solo...
I heard a demo by Peter Green of a song called 'Showbiz Blues', though in the demo it was called 'Do You Really Give A Damn For Me'. The slide guitar work was probably the most haunting I'd ever heard.

Beefheart's Magic Band featured lots of slide guitar. It's difficult to single out one track, but the bit on Big Eyed Beans From Venus where Mr Zoot Horn Rollo hits that long lunar note and lets it float is particularly memorable.

Arguing on the internet is a lot like the special olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded.
