Hey everybody, I'm new here.
I decided recently after evaluating some aspects that my preferred and favourite music style is PROG, and that is why I wan't to pay respect by learning more and more, and hear what you all have to say here. I had this realization a few days ago when I found this site by accident while seeking some info about a certain album. Here I found a terrible criticism (sorry if I write wrong, since english is not my native language), and at first I was terribly angry with a guy in here (prog jester,if i'm not wrong)... but my head enlightened and I thought "hey, why are you angry?... it's an opinion, and everyone has different tastes". That is when I decided that I should expand what I thought was my final sphere of music, even after expanding it before since I was a fan of only one band... pretty naive. I started in 2002 when a friend introduced me to Dream Theater and I remained like that up until 2017 more or less.. I VERY SLOWLY incorporated new bands, but I ended up listening to Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes, Deep Purple, Haken, Genesis, Porcupine Tree, lot's of supergroups also, and many more , but I found out it was mainstream. Now I wanna keep exploring and I think I found the perfect place for that. I hope to slowly catch the rythm with this site, and to all of you: a pleasure to meet you!

Thanks for the quick answer guys!
Any suggestion on where to start? My last prog discovery (and discs that are with me almost everyday) were Transatlantic's Whirlwind, and Spock's Beard's "V" |

Welcome to PA!
Two tips: 1. Don't mention Torman Maxt. 2. Don't try to argue with Cristi. Good day!

Here's my (short) check it out list (in no particular order) Emerson Lake and Palmer 1970-1977 After Crying Djam Karet Duncan MacKay Anekdoten Steve Hackett (early Genesis guitarist) And so many more. This list is a mix of heavy and symphonic bands. Do you have a genre that you prefer? Keyboard heavy, guitar heavy, symphonic? You mentioned a little of what you've heard, now what did you like?

That's another thing I plan to discover with a little help, the world of the wine. Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Whoah! I have the full weekend to prepare exams, and now you gave me a lot of new music to hear. New music helps me a lot because my brain doesn't recognize rythms and lyrics, so it doesn't engage in a unproductive humming. Thanks!
Thanks again! Wonderful site!
I saw this on another newbie welcome... should I ask about those two tips?... or start discovering by myself?
I will! I'm starting with "SNOW" |

@Eicca - those tips are a bit of a joke, really. They're two things about the site's past I found out about the hard way. You might discover them some day...

Just re-read the OP- you like Haken! Absolutley love that band too!! :D
If you like reading reviews, there are three reviewing blogs on forums - non prog albums, Prog Britannia (reviews of old classic British prog) and my modern prog album reviews blog. I reviewed Haken's Virus album on that last blog (page two). Also, since you're new to prog, you may not know about Avant Prog - really complex experimental music basically (though that is an over-simplification). I'm pointing out Avant because I would otherwise love to call myself a modern prog expert - sadly I can't as much modern prog is Avant, and I've only started to listen to it. If you want to find out about Avant, contact forum user Nogbad_The_Bad - he's basically an encyclopedia of Avant prog. Anyway, hope you enjoy your time here! |

^ The Cristi one is old for sure...nobody knows who Torman Maxt is, that's what a 8-9yr old thread, topic, if anything it makes no sense and is confusing.

Guys, you are explicitly mentioning Torman Maxt, so now I'm curious...
Yesterday I listened to CAN, it was great! Now, Torman Maxt. |
