Have you seen one of these shows? I've seen the one with Malmsteen, vai and satch, and Vai was clearly the best one in the three, even my Satriani-obsessed friend said so!!

This is not an all-out progressive poll, but this contains some progressive bands(Frank Zappa, Deep Purple (not clearly prog, but they are on the site!), King Crimson, Dream Theater, etc.) So vote! I want to see your favourite! It took me a long time to choose, but finally my vote goes to mr. Fripp, with Steve Vai as a close second.

I'd love to see Vai (whom I voted for, naturally), Satriani and one of these:

  • Mattias IA Eklundh
  • Mike Keneally
  • Bumblefoot (Ron THal)
  • Buckethead
  • Scott Henderson
  • Greg Koch
  • Eric Johnson (again)

I saw the 2004 G3, with Robert Fripp. I went only because Robert Fripp ( absolut fan of him and his band) but dont really care that much for Vai, Satriani I can listen to a while. But I was so disapointed...Vai played like 70% of the show time...and my friend Fripp did so little...I thing its because pretty much the 90% of G3 audience are heavy metals fast guitars fans...and Fripp would probably scare them or bored them, as I think it did to some people in the audience that night.
"You want me to play what, Robert?"

You don't know much about Vai. Vai doesn't play fast heavy guitar music all the time ... and Fripp doesn't play slow peaceful acoustic guitar music all the time.

BTW: I have the Vai/Satriani/Malmsteen DVD, and people like you should watch the first Vai song: Vai enters the stage with his three neck guitar and SITS DOWN on a chair. Then he plays a beautiful peaceful song without any drums or bass - just wonderful harmonic improvisations.

I have to agree with MikeEnRegalia. Vai is such a complete guitarist. Listen to whispering a prayer, then to Bad Horsie and then to the attitude song  you'll see he can mostly play every style!

That Woud be quite awesome!

Well, me thinks that Mr. Jerry C. Form Alice in Chains & solo would work quite nice with G3

If I have to be honest: YES I DO. There are thousands of far more better guitarists than him, besides he wouldn`t match with Joe and Steve

Convincing people has no sence for me... If You know Alice in chains albums, recognize Cantrels guitar stile and have a opinion how can I change it? Will my words be so powerfull that You'll have a mind-revelation, praise buddah nd love Jerry

My opinion may help some people that don't know him, but convincing people witha a firm opinion has no point... I can't make You like him!!!

Sure you can... a lot of pain can change everyone Anyway I just want to point I don`t like all rock/grunge/nu metal/whatever you`ll call it bands from the early 90`s. Like most metallers I`ll always remeber what they`ve done

Mental pain brainwash? Gotta try that sometimes...Just becouse Alice in Chains where for The same City as Nirvana & Pearl Jam and started in the same time as Nirvana & stuff doesn't mean that they are grunge!!! Lane & Jerry always said that the play psychadelic metal... And Now Your Judging the guitarist by the genre...  bad way
