Between these two big rock classics your choice is?

My pick is Machine Head, hands down.

Deep Purple, although Who's Next is a great album too.

The Who. It is a far better album.

Get the full CD versions and then argue. Score draw. Machine Head needs When A Blind Man Cries; an essential B side release.

Who's Next is perfect.

I'm a much bigger Who fan than Deep Purple fan. The Who are in my top 20.

There are probably a couple Deep Purple albums that could win against a couple select Who albums for me, but the Who album sure wouldn't be Who's Next.

It would have to be one of my few favorite Deep Purple albums (Machine Head is one of them) against one of my least favorite Who albums, and maybe only Endless Wire would do the trick.

Heck, a lot of Pete Townshend's solo albums would beat any Deep Purple album for me. Which isn't to suggest that I don't like Deep Purple, but I'm that big of a Who fan--as I am with anyone in my top 20 (and beyond).

Gotta go with The Who. IMHO Townsend and the boys have a lot more to say  both lyrically and musically than Purple . Obviously Blackmore is a better guitar player but when it comes to songwriting Purple has always been lightyears behind The Who.

Machine Head

I rarely listen to The Who these days. I don't know why, could be because I listen to Tommy and a compilation of their a lot when I was younger. I kinda grew tired. It never happened with DP though.

I believe Who's Next is one of the definitive rock albums of all time, (gets my vote.)

Who's Next for me. I go back to it often and I'm amazed something so great and diverse came from the chaos of the Lifehouse Project.

Machine Head is another classic album - but as I rate the live versions of many songs on Made in Japan much higher, I feel Who's Next pips it.
