 Topic: Led Zeppelin Prog Rock Songs

Led Zeppelin was playing at the restaurant I was working at today, and I started thinking, they have some really good prog rock songs. I mean not all there songs are prog, like not Black Dog or Good Times Bad Times. But I think they were very influenced by prog on the songs above. Of course, my favorite is The Rain Song. What's yours?

The only I don't care so much for here is All of My Love, although that is a good song. Jone's keyboard solo is one of the best parts of the album and the way it begins is one its very best moments. My vote went to Achilles Last Stand, a juggernaut of a song that proves that Prog can Rock. Special mention should go to Caouselambra, which is also one of my favorite Zep tracks. These two, along with Kashmir, are my three favorite Zep tunes. This may be the only site in the world devoted to rock music where Stairway would not dominate such a poll.

Perhaps Friends, Four Sticks, In The Light and Ten Years Gone could (have been) included? I'd probably want The Song Remains The Same in there as well if only because I think it bears no resemblance to any song hard rock / metal oriented. I think I'll vote for Carouselambra firstly, 'cause it's great, secondly I love it (no the same thing, just a coincidence), and thirdly I once read this described as disco. Best reason of all.

I don't get why "Black Dog" gets singled out as one of their least proggiest tracks. I mean, with its shifting time signature it's quite complex. Easily more prog than "All My Love", at least, I'd say.
Anyway, voted "No Quarter", easily my favourite of the ones listed, followed by "The Rain Song", "Stairway..." and "All My Love" (although I don't think it's the least bit prog, I do like it).

As far as favorites...I like Kashmir and No Quarter the best of those Zep songs....but I have said before here that I don't consider any Zep tracks to be prog rock. Prog related....maybe ..at times.

Tie between "No Quarter" (especially the monumental live version from The Song Remains the Same) and "Achilles' Last Stand". However, as the former already has a good amount of votes, I voted for the latter, which is one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs.

I was actually considering putting in Four Sticks, Friends, and In the Light (Ten Years Gone not so much though) Also, many have been saying All of My Love isn't that proggy, but I feel it sort of is for its use of violin, just as I put Battle of Evermore in for its use of mandolin.

I'm really missing the choice of In The Light, probably my fave Zeppelin song by far. Love the bowed guitar among other things. I voted for The Rain Song here, with The Battle of Evermore a distant second.

I never noticed the shifting time signiture in Black Dog. But I still don't see it as a prog rock song. I mean, the lyrics are not the prog type and, to be honest, I just never really likes that song and felt it's overrated.

Achilles Last Stand is the most proggy-est out of those imo... sonically it's not a million miles from 'Red' era King Crimson, to my ears anyway
