I voted for Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element, and then I saw Enchant's album. That's a favorite, too.

Mastermind's AotA is easily a 4-star album. My pick.

Spock's Beard just a notch ahead of King Crimson. Before I became a truck, I was a tossed salad.

Voted King Crimson though I consider it one of their weakest.

Also: Glass Hammer's Chronometree is seriously good and needs more love.

I love most Arena, but Immortal is not one of my favourites (and the cover is vile).
It's either IQ or Iona and it's a very hard choice. Going with IQ today. Tomorrow might have been different. None of the rest come close.

I think I owned about 14 of these back in the day, it was a very good year!
IQ > Spock's > PoS > Transatlantic > Arena are all superb

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I'm the same. I guess I am not that keen on more traditional conceptions of Prog generally, and had this site stuck with a narrow vision of Progressive Rock, then I don't think I would have continued with this site. Some of my favourites from 2000 in PA are Radiohead's Kid A, Godspeed You Black Emperor!'s Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! and Bohren & der Club of Gore's Sunset Mission. Outside of PA, Broadcast's The Noise Made by People is a special album to me. |

That was the first album I owned by them. The Tarkus influenced opening track hooked me in and I've been a fan ever since. It's funny to listen to recent material such as the superb but much heavier At The Gate and wonder if it's the same band. Only recently found that basically it isn't because bassist Steve Babb has now fully taken over the reins while keyboardist Fred Schendel has pulled back significantly. Also sadly no involvement from Suzie Bogdanwicz anymore. One of the loveliest ladies of prog!
