Topic: hackett or phillips Posted: March 31 2005 at 20:46 |
This is a difficult question which do you think is better (both in genesis as in a solo career) hackett or phillips?

Phillips can't Hackett on stage !
I prefer Hackett. Wasn't a big fan of either Trespass or The Geese and the Ghost.

I'm for Hackett just by the cause that my mostly favorite Genesis's albums (1971-1974) are recorded with Hackett.
Both solo-careers are aqually good (IMO) though

I voted for Hackett, but don't underestimate Phillips. He did all kinds of different things too!
Phillips did Genesis-like stuff, solo acoustic guitar stuff, solo piano stuff, just crazy stuff that you can't really put a tag on, movie music, ambient music, synth albums, concept albums, library music, just songs... A great artist in his own right!
I really like: Back To The Pavilion, Sides, Ivory Moon, Tarka and Slow Dance.

If poor Phillips doesn't get more support I will open an Anthony Phillips appreciation thread. You have been warned, my fellow PA-ers .

Just got archives I (finally!) and Hackett was and is very, very underrated. I can't believe some of the incredible things I'm hearing him play on the live recordings. Wow.
