For a beginner, I wouldn't spend too much at first - get the cheapest you can that has a full-size keyboard and MIDI-outs. Learn some stuff, then, as you get better and remain interested (always the hard part), invest in a keyboard that does what you need it to.

After you've played with a keyboard (any keyboard) for a year or so, you'll have a much better idea of what YOU need.

Is that helpful?

if you're posting on this forum, it's probable that you have a PC.

how about getting a USB keyboard? There is plenty of software that lets you play and learn keyboards on the PC, and if you start making your own music it will be almost essential. Plus, it won't become obsolete because you can build up quite an impressive variety of sounds (many for free!).

The downside is that it's not portable. If you are planning to play with other musicians right away, you'll need something else.

BTW: don't listen to any of the trolls on the forum...you do just fine with english.
