Hey alchemist, have you ever been asked to choose between your children?
How on earth do you choose between tracks of a band that has produced so many brilliant ones?
My favs are : Canutility; Salmacis; Blood on the Rooftops; Firth; Unquiet Slumbers; Ripples; Mad Man Moon; White Mountain; Harlequin; Broadway Melody 1974; Horizons; Cinema Show; Anyway; Afterglow; Stagnation .....
....but I could just as well list every track between FGTR to WAW

Best Genesis song!! now that's impossible to figure out... ok, maybe it can be done... my top 10 genesis songs right now is:
1. The Musical Box 2. Supper's Ready 3. Firth of Fifth 4. One for the Vine 5. Cinema Show 6. In the Cage 7. Dancing with the Moonlight Knight 8. Watcher of the Skies 9. Los Endos 10. The Fountain of Salmacis
damn it hurts so much to leave aside such hymns like The Return of the Giant Hogweed, Eleventh Earl of Mar, The Knife, Dance on a Volcano, Burning Rope, Can-Utility and the Coastliners... aaarggghhh..... Down and Out!!!!!

From "Nursery Cryme" to "Selling England..." every 7+ minute song is a masterpiece, as well as the Fountain Of Salmacis and After The Ordeal, a great instrumental.

I love all those songs, and plenty more besides.
I voted for Dance on a volcano because it was the first Genesis song I heard as a prog band. I was hooked after hearing that one song!
Thanks Tommy Vance RIP

It``s a hard question, because I like a lot of their songs, but from the Peter Gabriel years I think that "Supper``s ready" is the best.
From the Phil Collins years, maybe "Dance on a volcano".

Hard to choose between Firth of Fifth and the Knight, but...
Dancing with the Moonlit Knight it is.

Those are all great, in my book.
I can't assign numerical values to them -- they all have their strengths, and can be equally appealing at different times.
Besides these more "powerful" pieces, I also really like the "prettier" classic Genesis songs.

Interesting and very difficult poll. Everyone will have their favourites, and as Genesis were alwasy my fave band, I could choose many, many more than those listed. However, if the criteria is songs from Gabriel Hackett era, does that mean when both were in the band together? If it does, then The Knife is out, as it is from the Gabriel Phillips era, and Dance On A Volcano and Eleventh Earl Of Mar are from the post Gabriel era, so should they count? And if we mean any era that includes Gabriel, and/or Hackett, then Entangled and Los Endos would surely have to be included. I have to go with the epic Supper's Ready, but Musical Box, Fountain, Harlequin and, like a colleague of mine on here from Sweden mentioned, Harold The Barrel, all have their merits. Oh, and Watcher Of The Skies, Blood On The Rooftops, I Know What I like, anything off the Lamb, etc etc
