 Topic: Led Zeppelin: How the West Was Won

I bought this awhile back, and still think it is one of, if not the greatest live albums produced. The three disc set is taken from Zep's performances and the LA Forum in either 72 or 73, I think. The songs are edited to sound like one whole

I bought them both (CD and DVD) simultaniously. Indeed both are fenomenally great albums. costed me some 90 euro, but not a stuiver was wasted on this

Being a very devoted Zeppelin fan, I picked up "How the West Was Won" the first day it was availabe, and I agree with you that it is an amazing performance they captured in California and the audio quality is excellent. I was surprised

I really dig this set. No need for Song Remains the Same after this album came out. I too bought the DVDs also. Very great material.

I like it a lot, but I find some of the songs to get boring in the middle (Dazed and Confused, Moby Dick). Otherwise, it's a very fulfilling experience.

I thought the DVD was absolutely excellent. I couldn't believe they got that entire first disc on film! Oh man, how awesome it would be to have been there.......

If you watch the DVD that was released around the same time (summer '03), the drum solo is actually quite

"How the west was won" is far superior to "The song remains the same". Having said that, I wish they would release a live recording that encompasses "Physical Grafitti". Imagine the inclusion of "Ten years gone", Kashmir", In the light" and "custard pie

Two of my friends both own How the West was Won, and they both highly, highly recommend it. I really want it, I'll probably be borrowing it from one of them.

well i've heard just about every album of zep but how the west was won, i never really heard it but i never thought it was worth getting

Gleam, Kashmir is on "How the west was Won." It's on disc two and it smokes. A song that's on here that I always wanted to see live is "Achilles last Stand." Awesome song and I believe it's the longest and the closest to prog they ever recorded. Bonham was incredible. I can see why they never recorded after he died. Jimmy Page is one of the all time great guitar players and writers of rock music. The first time I heard "Whole Lotta Love", I was blown away. Zep's one of the few non prog bands I love. Of course there's Jimi Hendrix also. Sometimes I try to imagine the music he would have written if he didn't die. What a loss. Hendrix was a writing machine. He spent most of his money, a million dollars, on building Electric Ladyland studios and just recorded 24-7. Two albums, "First rays of the new rising Sun" and "South Saturn Delta" are available with many recording that were to make his next studio release. Some songs aren't even finished but they all sound pretty awsome. What a waste of talent.
