My two personal favorites are Andrew Latimer and David Gilmour.  They're not very technical, but just happen to be personal favorites because of the bands they play in :)

Links to musical projects coming soon!!!

The one and only Steve H.

Autenticidad, actitud, pluralidad, espiritu e inteligencia, si es prog bien, si no, tambien.

Hillage, Howe or Hackett?

Hmmm, I'll take Holdsworth... Not a Steve, but still more unique and expressive.

Its Gilmour...he's got the passion, the talent and the mood.

The rest are brilliant in their own way... but Gilmour is the only one that can make you feel like his guitar is an extension of his mind.  He's a spiritual player!

it depends on your criterias; the most valuable ones are sound quality and performance level.

So, there are 5 names:

sound quality /10 ----------------------------performance level /10

Alex Lifeson  -----------------------    10     ---------------------------- -------------    9.5

Steve Rothery -----------------------    10     ---------------------------- -------------    8.5

David Gilmour-----------------------    9.5--- ------------------------------------------    8.5

Steve Hackett -----------------------     9.5 ---------------------------- -------------   8

Gary Chandler (Jadis) -----------------   9 ----- ----------------------- -------------    8.5

Alan Holdsworth        -- ----------------    8------------------- --------- -------------   10

Nektar's   ---------------------------------- ---  8 ---------------------------- -------------   8.5

Edgar Froese  (TDream)--------------------- 8   ---------------------------- -------------   8. 5

Mike Holmes (IQ)         -- ----------------- 7.5 ---------- ------------------ -------------   8

Andy Latimer ---------------------------------7------------- ------------------- -------------   7

Mike Oldfield ----------------------------------6----------- ----------------- -------------   7.5

Anthony Phillips -----------------------    5.5---------- ---------------------------------------   7

Daryl Stuermer (Genesis)------------------------ 4 -------------- ---- ---------- ------------- 5

Radiohead's       ------- ---------------------- 0------------------------------- ---------------------   0

Nice to see Steve Rothery so high on your list there, Greenie - but I think you're unnecessarily harsh on Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead), who develops some amazing sounds and does some really creative (and progressive ) things with his guitar.

Because you don't like Radiohead, your marking of him just looks like sour grapes - not a reasonable technical evaluation at all.

I would also include Steve H in that list. (Mr Hillage, of course!).
