Why do Rush have two washing machines onstage for their live performances? and why does a 'washing machine' roady re-fill them mid-set?

Always wondered if any deep significance to this.....

Right before their encore, they throw the shirts that are inside out to the fans. I believe they keep it running so they are toasty warm when they are thrown out.

Let's see what Tony will say about this topic.

Not wishing to steal Mr R's thunder but I heard that the washing machines were placed on stage at Geddy's request to counterbalance Alex's huge bank of amps and equipment.

One of the reason's that I like Rush is the subtle brand self deprecating humour that runs through a lot of their work. You only have to read one of their tour programs to understand that even though they are serious about their music, they also understand how ludicrous the music business can be.

Its also because geddy routes his bass directly through the P.A. and the unit that he uses could fit into a backpack.  he claimed:

"Well, we couldn't just set it onto a chair behind me, so we needed to do fill the space.."

I guess large Maytag appliances are so prog, it became the logical choice

I always asked myself the same question and don't have an answer, but it's funny.

I think Rush was trying tio find a meaning of the expression: washing the dirty linnen in public

I stand corrected and hope that my clothing comes back warm and smelling of summer glades.

Geddy is lipsinking, they really have a midget with a big clamp on his balls singing. The midget is hidden in the washing machine. I think I might have figured out why his voice is so high, and why the washing machines are there!
