My vote goes to James LaBrie. I also like Midnight and Geoff Tate. |

That's a difficult one: I want to spare my vote between Daniel Gildenlöw and Russel Allen, but because that's not allowed, I vote for the former (sorry, Russell). And my vote would be the same if you eliminate the word "metal" from the question... I only have one thing for sure: LaBrie would be very, very, but VERY close to the bottom of the list for me... |

Daniel Gildenlow, one of the most diverse, emotional and powerful vocalists ever.
Mike Akerfeldt is a close second. |

I'm not a big fan of prog-metal but Mikael Åkerfeldt has a wonderful
voice and it fits Opeth's music perfectly. So I voted for him.

just horrible!!! all these guys sing too badly! James la Brie from Dream theater sings wrong I just wonder why Devin TOWNSEND has be added to the archives (this is metal core indus music)!!! why don't you add bands like ministry, laibach and others? |

Unbelievable. Fates Warning get always ignored in these polls. 1) John Arch (by a country mile) 2) Geoff Tate 3) Ray Alder 4) Charlie Dominici and probably Snake. He can't sing but I like him nonetheless.

Before they found Mickey Mouse La Brie Mr Dominici had to leave because he was much older than the rest, and their personalities didn't fit together. At least, that's what everyone said.

No, no, I've read about that "age problem" many times. I think he was almost 40 when they were in their 20s (though I'm not sure). And I don't know how he sounded live. Maybe his voice was a bit thin on stage - maybe. But I really like his cold, often emotionless, approach on When Dream and Day Unite. His mechanical singing in Light Fuse and Getaway is really spinetingling and original in a way.

By the way, I think both reasons why they sacked him are right. Official DT FAQ: http://www.dtfaq.com/category/?categoryid=7#43

Daniel Gildenlow is not only the best prog-metal singer, but one of the best singers in the world. Michael Akerfeldt comes in at a spectacularly close second, his diversity is staggering. Anyone who compares Devin Townsend (who would come third in my book) to Ministry has clearly never heard his music. The man is a prog genuis. If you don't believe me, listen to "Terria". It's an absolute soddin' masterpiece. |

DANIEL GILDENLÖW One of the most gifted singers in the world IMHO. His range and emotional delivery is un-matched. Russel Allen comes second on my list. A tremendously talented singer with loads of power. One of the few vocalists that give old Ronnie James Dio a run for his money. |

Daniel Gildenlow (excuse the absence of those dots above the "o")!
Pain of Salvation is the best band out there right now and he's fronting it with a potent mind & voice! Geoff Tate is also a worthy runner-up. P.S. If you'd like to know more about Mr. Gildenlow, you can view my interview with him in the Interviews section of the forum. The interview was conducted at the end of October 2004. Peace & take care |
