Topic: Rocky Horror Picture Show Posted: March 12 2005 at 17:38 |
For those of you who don't know, Rocky Horror is a movie that was
released back in the 70s that was so bad that its become a monthly
midnight tradition is many movie theaters across the States, full with
initiation processes and a wide variety of interesting traditions.
have you seen it? what did you think? would you go see it again?

I finally saw it years after it was released (at one of those infamous midnight shows). It simple did not live up to the insane hype that its maniacally devoted following created. It is good "camp," with a few good rock songs, but that's as far as it goes.
Peace.

Cult movie, as far as I know. I saw it in the seventies, but don't keep so much memories about it. But prog? I don't think so. As a curious fact, Meatloaf was on the movie.
I just recall a movie called Blood for Frankenstein, Andy Warholl-ish as I remember. That was camp, my friends...

I think the question of "is it prog" was a joke.

I like it, but one of those consistantly overrated.

I think it's a fair question, given the overall "70s rock plus orchestration" sound of the music. Along with Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals of the 70s, I use Rocky Horror as an example in my reviews now and then, when I hear a particularly over-the-top melodramatic prog sound (IQ anyone?).
I enjoyed the shows a few times back in high school (late 80s). Like most cult fun, it lost a lot of its appeal once everybody knew all about it.

I suppose... but just because something is a rock opera doesn't make it
prog. Tommy by the Who: clearly not prog. Rocky Horror? Don't make me
laugh.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not arguing in favor of Rocky Horror's prog status. I'm just saying that there are plenty of comparisons to be drawn, if you need to.
Next compare/ contrast assignment: "Jesus Christ Superstar" vs. Aphrodite's Child "666"
